On Alan Wake 2 PC

A post to a thread called "Can we get a straight answer about the PC version?" on the Alan Wake Community Forums has a response to concerns on that topic from Remedy Entertainment's Markus Maki. The vagueness of his response is not very reassuring for PC gamers concerned they won't get to play Remedy's upcoming psychological thriller (which Remedy says is the first season of a bigger story), on their chosen platform:
Hey all,

I'm a PC gamer at heart (have a Core i7, Radeon 4890, 5.1 audio setup at home) so I do appreciate your concerns.

Unfortunately all I can say at this point is that we're focusing all our efforts on the 360 version and will be making comments in regards to the PC at a later in time.

MS doesn't like competition.

Even with itself? You do realize of course that there are far more people using PC/laptops that use MS' own OS than there are console users. So wouldn't it be in their own interests to see that people play PC games? As it stands there's less and less reason for people to keep using MS' OS', particulary each new generation - which is more and more redundant and anyone wanting a cheap OS solely for practical purposes are better served with Linux or going to a Mac.

By not supporting gaming on the PC MS is shooting itself in the foot needlessly.

Was it the 7-time usage of "M$" that made you say that, or something else?
You PC gamers are the biggest tools on earth.

Why do you PC gamers act like when developers want to make money they are somehow commiting a crime? Why is making a game for console selling your soul to the devil?

My god...you people are children.

Yeah, because you need a really large skill-set to push the left mouse button over and over.

m$ has been and still is intentionally force funneling development dollars and priorities on consoles. m$ shifts all publishing dollars and manipulates other publishers and developers cash in how they get access to licenses.

Exactly. Nobody should be surprised by this. If MS publishes a game, it'll be a 360 exclusive and MIGHT eventually come out on PC after its been thoroughly milked. MS doesn't like competition. That's why they go out of their way to buy exclusives and starve the other platforms.

Don't blame Remedy just like any developer they are forced to deal with the devil to stay in business. This is typical m$, lying again about supporting the PC and this is exactly why the PC is not getting support/dollars for games. m$ has been and still is intentionally force funneling development dollars and priorities on consoles. m$ shifts all publishing dollars and manipulates other publishers and developers cash in how they get access to licenses.

As long as gamers continue to support m$ with buying dollars and praise about their console system, m$ has no reason to stop undermining PC development.

You don't get the right to complain and bitch, if you grab your ankles for m$ and their console system, every time you buy or post opinions in support of m$ games and systems.

if i remember correctly, when this game was announced and they showed a tech video preview they mentioned how the gaming was so demanding it would take a quad core processor

I remember this video exactly, I wondered if anyone would mention it. It seemed to me the video wasn't trying to convey that the game is so demanding it would require a quad-core processor but that this was one of the first games being developed to use 4 cores efficiently.

I'm pretty pissed that they apparently decided to scrap the work they were obviously doing on the PC version and focus on the 360 but that's how it goes these days.

Plus, this game is taking forever.

Hey guys I appreciate all the concern you have about the PC version to be quite frank about the situation it costs us a bloody fortune to make a AAA title. As you can imagine when your spending around 15-20 million per game you want to get a return on your investment. Now we know that PC gamers usually have the money but you guys dont have the numbers. That's why we are focusing our games on the "teen" crowd they have the consoles & the parents have the money. It's important that in the future we dumb down our games to appeal to a more broader American audience. Americans have no interest in a steep learning curve for a game they would much rather just mash buttons & well gladley charge them 60.00 to do so. Sorry guys your a dying breed -Markus Maki

WTF?????
if i remember correctly, when this game was announced and they showed a tech video preview they mentioned how the gaming was so demanding it would take a quad core processor. Am i missing something? isn't the xbox360 'old' tech by now? pff

You remember correctly, and I'm just as confused. You can optimize a game for a static hardware setup, but the way they were talking, it just wasn't going to be possible to have all the physics/graphical effects going without a state of the art DX10 system.

This news is as bad as seeing how Rockstar is raping Max Payne in the third game. Wish that game had still been in Remedy's hands, but the way it sounds, they just don't have the staff to do two games at once.

What's it been? 4 years since it was announced (for PC and 360)? And now they've decided to focus on the 360? Sounding more and more Duke Nukemish.

Well when they revealed the gameplay it quickly became apparent that the game is a straightforward survival horror game using light as a gimmick in combat.

Nothing much to be excited about.

So...only if it sells well enough and maybe six to twelve months later? Possibly outsourced? And if Frozenbyte has anything to say about it, for a 40% higher retail price?
Unrelated, but who cares? It's just so fun to bash Trine.
Thinking it would have been much more simple to just say "F*ck off,"
