L4D DLC & L4D2 Demo Plans

Computer and Video Games has word from Valve to expect the announcement of another DLC pack for Left 4 Dead for both Windows and Xbox 360 before the summer is over. "We plan to keep supporting Left 4 Dead 1. There will be some announcements coming before summer's out about what's coming there, and then we haven't shown everything that's in Left 4 Dead 2 yet," is what they hear from Valve's Doug Lombardi. "I think 8, 9 months from now once everything's been out for a while and everyone's had time to see the complete product of Left 4 Dead 2 and see continued support for Left 4 Dead 1, they may sort of see what we were up to and what the method of our madness was there." He also says that the release of Left 4 Dead 2 will be preceded by a playable demo.

Game could be free and people would complain it took to long to download, or steam couldn't load, or their mom took their computer away, etc.

That's an easy fall-back gripe that you and LMN8R love to use all the time, but it's a specious and nonsensical argument that has no bearing on the discussion except to offer yet a little more condescension. There will always be someone bitching, true, but compare the amount of griping and complaining about the announcement of L4D 2 to, let's say, the bitching about why Starcraft 2 isn't going to be free, or why it's not out yet. Yes, there are people bitching about these things I'm sure, but the level of complaints is nowhere near that as in the case of L4D. The sheer amount of bitching implies that there is more to the story than just a bunch of gamers with a self-entitlement complex, otherwise the level of bitching would be equal in every case of the announcement of a major franchise getting a sequel.

BTW, this is similar to what valve pulled with TFC after source came out (even before TF2) they essentially abandoned it. The last patches didn't address a years known exploit (nail grenades). They did one last patch that added in the teleporters, and I think that was pretty much it (aside from misc patches that fixed hl1 engine stuff that they wanted to fix in counter strike, and incidentally affected HL1 and TFC).

They STILL release updates for DoD Source.
Just have to pick the most popular ones. Obviously they are going to stop supporting games at some point. Shit, they even still support DOD! And that community is actually still doing pretty well.

The communities are what make a game for me. If they quit supporting it or putting out more content, who cares. Mad about the new game price? Wait 1 month and get it 50% off.

Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch Bitch.

Just STFU and play the game if you want, and don't if you do not want to. sheesh.

You do realize the irony in complaining about whiners, right?

Did you think before you posted?

Dev, I looked back. They said the custom content patch was coming, with the matchmaking update to follow.

I too had mistaken their intention as I even commented about it n the thread here for the custom content patch.

But they have mentioned plans prior to that for other content, but had never specified what, just stating that there was more coming. This was shortly before the Survival mode patch.

They had also said they had further plans for L4D content at E3 as I've pointed out many times. People just chose not to listen because they were too busy bitching about the announcement of L4D2.

xXBatmanXx:
I've greatly enjoyed my approx 200 hours too. All this stuff with L4D2 won't change how much I enjoy or play L4D1 currently. What it DOES to is become a factor in my buying decision for L4D2 and if I buy it pre-order or wait until it comes down to bargain prices, or not buy it entirely.

BTW, this is similar to what valve pulled with TFC after source came out (even before TF2) they essentially abandoned it. The last patches didn't address a years known exploit (nail grenades). So this isn't just a 1 time thing, now I know to expect this from valve.

They've said that this is what they were going to do all along, and there's nothing to suggest that this content is only coming as a response to the boycott.

Of course, unless you are somehow privy to the inner workings of Valve, you don't have a clue either. The ironic thing is how every single one of your posts is nothing but piss and vinegar as you rail against 'nerd ragers' with your very own brand of rage. I said nothing about any boycott. There are people who are disappointed with the unfortunate announcement of a L4D sequel so soon after the original, which has never really been made into what it was sold to us as, who don't go around demanding that everything be free.

Those people hit nearly every gaming news site on the web and talk of L4D on most major forums I visit is largely negative. I think the bigger fool is the one who thinks they didn't have an impact.
Just because they hit a few gaming sites doesn't mean anything. The game is still full price, and it will still sell millions.

Oh great, an announcement that sometime in the next few months we'll get an announcement.

Well they had said months back that there was more DLC coming...but everyone plugged their ears so they could whine about Valve screwing them over with L4D2.

Of course it'll be free on PC, and only one of those self-inflated idiot members of the "L4D2 boycott group" could be dense enough to believe that they actually hold importance in the eyes of Valve.

Oh thank goodness.. I thought I was alone in thinking LFD was not that great of a game.. sure, fun for me for about 10 minutes.. then it was "turn corner, more zombies.. go down alley.. more zombies"
I kept thinking that there was going to be more to the game than what i experienced in the first 10 minutes.. so i played on, played coop.. same damn thing. wtf?

The game didnt seem to have any lasting appeal at all.. apparently from sales records, it was very popular, but to me the game seemed like the same damn thing over and over.

I waited until L4D was one of Steam's weekend sales before I bought it, it was worth it then, but as a full price game hell no.

Since there doesn't seem to be much reason to play L4D1 when L4D2 is out, I'll wait until L4D2 is half off for a weekend before I buy it.

Could it be that the massive nerd rage has gotten Valve's attention? Or were they planning this all along? Either way, if this DLC is priced higher than $0.00, I won't be needing it, thank you.

I'd be fine with paying for L4D2 even this soon after the 1st... IF valve had never made specific promises for DLC content in L4D1 that they have broken and decided to move to the new game instead and charge everyone for. Next time they should just keep thier mouth shut instead of lying about it.

"Valve intends to support hotly anticipated zombie survival shooter Left 4 Dead post-release with new characters, new maps, new achievements and new weapons in order to grow the community, Gabe Newell has revealed."
"Valve co-founder and managing director said the developer intended to follow a similar downloadable content policy as it has with Team Fortress 2."
"So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time.""
http://www.videogamer.com/news/valve_details_post_left_4_dead_launch_plans.html

08/28/2008
"writer Chet Faliszek said that Valve plans to get the DLC rolling much more quickly with Left 4 Dead than it has been able to for Team Fortress 2. Plans already in the works call for new campaigns, weapons, and boss infected (the game's zombie enemies). In addition, there were strong hints at a flamethrower coming not long after launch."
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3169669

No new weapons for L4D1 DLC as promised (moved to full priced sequel L4D2 instead).
No new campaigns for L4D1 DLC as promised (moved to full priced sequel L4D2 instead), and no, I don't count the 1 new mini level in survival a campaign.
No new characters L4D1 DLC as promised (moved to full priced sequel L4D2 instead).
No new special infected L4D1 DLC as promised (moved to full priced sequel L4D2 instead).
L4D1 has NOT been supported as TF2 has been, another broken promise.
L4D1 has NOT had more content DLC much quicker than TF2 as promised.
Valve's announced new DLC they've called a content DLC for L4D1 is... wait for it... a matchmaking fix... I don't count that as content DLC sorry.

Just for reference, I have hundreds of hours in L4D1 and over 350 hours in TF2. I paid for both, full price pre-orders.
