agreed though I max out intelligence and charisma since the combat is too easy no matter what one does unfortunately. Then you get all of the story choices which is the more enjoyable part of the game

Cool. Got this for 30.00 from gogamer some time ago, now on Steam? Even better. I know Steam games are hard to mod at times, so I am actually glad I grabbed a box copy.

The community has actually done a great job of making this game better and more playable with their numerous mods. Look around for the same or similar price for a retail copy.

I wish it did. :/

Can't you just copy the files off the DVD and "install" them manually? It seems REALLY weird that they wouldn't work with the steam version, since the DLC are basically just mods.

Each DLC costs $10. There's five in the GOTY release and it costs $50. When you do the math you're paying for five DLCs, and getting Fallout 3 for free. I think this is a great deal esp if you don't want to mess with GFWL.

i'm enjoying point lookout with a level 10 character -- YMMV but I think it is worth the 10 bucks as long as you dont use a maxed out character....

In FO3, you pretty much ARE maxed out by level 10. You can annihilate everything you encounter with the Combat Shotgun and Sneak Criticals. At least, on normal difficulty. I highly recommend everyone play on the Very Hard difficulty setting because that's the only one that's even remotely challenging.

lol thats exactly why i never really bothered with oblivion. the joke of a melee system that felt tacked on. running around and what literally felt like poking ppl with sticks with my character shouting hoh, hah, hoooohaggh! virtually no physical damage as a result of said poking. fo3 removed the 1/2 assed effort melee system, unless u ran out of ammo. for me detaching from that system made the game playable, and very enjoyable watching faces split apart like mr potato head covered with Ln2.

It was very tempting until I considered that the GOTY edition with all the DLC is due out in the not too distant future and there's no way in hell I'm buying anything through GfWL. I was a big fan of Oblivion - regardless of all the nay-sayers - but Fallout 3 just doesn't interest me in the same way. The shooter mechanic seems too tacked on and I really hate what they've done with VATS (I know you don't have to use it but it basically makes it hard not to).

I think I'll pass and wait for the GOTY version to be discounted. Still, I was very tempted.

Considering all the DLC have amounted to linear shooting galleries

Really?
Ug.

I bought Broken Steel and Operation Alaska. I hate Alaska. It's, like you said, a linear shooting gallery. It plays like any cheap, generic FPS game, only with VATS. It kind of sucks. I spent the past few days playing Fallout 3 way, way too much, like pretty much any free time I had (been years since I was hooked on something like that), then started Operation Alaska. I'm happy I did, as my jonesing pretty well stopped immediately.

It's just not much fun.

Simply copy the .bsa and .esm files, along with the few other files, into your Fallout3\data folder and treat the DLC like you would any mod. Runs fine, and I see no reason why that wouldn't work on Steam.

Considering all the DLC have amounted to linear shooting galleries (Point Lookout is the only relatively open one), who cares about the DLC anyways?

People regularly lambast the likes of Call of Duty for its reliance on scripted sequences but its OK when the sandbox of FO3 is reduced to such antics?

Just buy the game and forget these things.

I already have Fallout 3, but I'm waiting for all of the DLC to be released on disk first before I install and play it. That and I still haven't finished playing FO1 and FO2 (purchased from GoG).

I thought the first two were already available on disk, but I see it's only Operation Anchorage and The Pitt. The second "DLC" disk containing Broken Steel and Point Lookout doesn't come out until August. The 5th DLC, Mothership Zeta, isn't even available yet, so I wonder how long until it's available on disk.

Hopefully they'll release a single disk containing all five DLC soon. I wonder if Mothership Zeta will be the last, or will they continue to milk the DLC cow? Didn't they say that Point Lookout was going to be the last at one time?

Edit: Can't seem to spell today.

Screw it, I guess I can wait for the GOTY edition. I'd rather do that and get everything (including the Horse Armor!) in one package then deal with GFWL. Besides I got Ghostbusters to finish, school starts next week, etc, etc...

I'm doing exactly what kxmode suggested. I was considering buying the first DLC, but GFWL was such a turn-off I decided to just wait for a compilation. There have been plenty of games to fill my free time, and plenty going on out in the real world to make sure that time was limited. I figure by the time that pack is out, I'll be ready to start another playthrough and enough time will have passed (and there'll be enough new content) that I can really enjoy exploring the world, not to mention the modding community should have some real hits that will have been playtested, refined, and balanced by then. I wonder if Valve/Bethsoft will either offer a discount for those who have the game already, or let us gift the original (a la the Orange Box) if we buy the full-on package.

@kxmode:

I bought the original, and the 3 DLC packs that are available now. However, I pick this up when the time comes so that I don't have to fool around with the DLC's in the future. Heck, I'm playing Far Cry through again, for about the 10th time. When I'm 10 years down the road, and want to play FO3 again, I want it all in one spot.

Trouble is, I already bought FO 3 via D2D. Why would I want to buy it again? Fallout 3 doesn't get another penny from me until I can buy the DLC's separately from somewhere other than the abominable GFWL POS.
