ARMA II Diary Movie

A new ARMA II Developer's Diary Movie on the ARMA II website features an introduction to basic game controls and principles in Bohemia Interactive's military shooter sequel. The clip is narrated by Bohemia PR manager Jan Prazak, whose English is impressive while his Czech accent is not too hard to understand. The clip shows the player's physical presence in the game world, and various elements intended on giving this a greater sense of realism.

seems like the CPU is much more important for this game than the GPU
It didn't seem like it to me. The demo barely made my old AMD X2 4400+ (Socket 939) reach the temp threshold for the CPU fan to spin up. It started to get annoying, it would hit the temp threshold, the fan would spin up for a few seconds, cool off and spin back down. After about 30-45 minutes the system finally heated up enough to make the fan stay on.

Part of the problem with the Arma community is American players (some of the most selfish and childish gamers on the planet). As a general rule I recommend gaming with Brits, or other Europeans if you are looking for quality players. They generally are better team players and more polite and humble.

Thats a myth.
I have to play on European servers most of the time. While of course the ArmA/OFP community is far more mature than the say CoD4 community, its still much more filled with arrogant, elitist and idiot players than any American servers I join when I play with my friends in America.
Thats also the reason I ALWAYS chose American MMO servers. I had such bad experiences with European ones...

Brits and Germans (I am German) are the worst of all. Swedish guys and some other northern ones are actually ok.
I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

as much as I'd like to smash slipperyjim for that comment I'd have to agree with him.

of course americans are childish, the culture is less than 300 years old and its population is descended from random opportunists and the people they exploited

yet - where was electricity invented? where was the car invented? the airplane? where was the computer invented? also mcdonalds, starbucks, coke, etc.

americans got to the modern age first, but now that the rest of the world is coming around its becoming apparent that they dont have some special province over it. the rest of the world grows impatient with the petulant new country as they each assert their particular mode of operation...

but it might be too late to disinfect it from that original vision... and thats what isnt widely apparent to them

I think either the master browser was jacked when i went to try the demo, or the game is not what i want.. because all i saw were 12'ish people servers.. and in a tactical, thinking, strategic, large game like this.. that's not nearly enough.

I am positive I wasn't seeing everything.

I love Arma 2, but like many, hate the online community. Nothing but Evolution and Domination games, played by people who just don't communicate, or who don't speak english. However, there are one or two respites. Try out Charlie Foxtrot at www.cfarma2.com. Basically, join some kind of organised group. Arma2 is no fun pubbing.

Yeah I think part of the problem is that the game's interface doesn't facilitate teamwork so we have to rely on people making a concerted effort to make that happen. Pub servers are definitely chaotic as far as teamwork goes, except the chopper pilots do a great job of shuttling the soldiers.

I was just on a server and a tank selfishly and by himself cleared a town.. Not teamwork, just someone trying to rack up kill score points.

PR mod has the nice squad system and spawn/rally/hideout/firebase/etc.. and the GUI makes joining squads and picking kits straight forward. Just picking a kit type is confusing in A2. And i still don't know how to join a squad (I did in A1 and it wasn't convenient). Too bad BIS didn't take some lessons from it.

space captain, well I don't think the i7 mobos will drop too much and when the i5 mobos come out they'll be cheaper for the same speed i think. Intel is phasing out the i7. But yeah, same upgrade path more or less.

Yeah, good idea then. I see....

this mobo wont take a quad core.. its LGA775 but im using an old XPS 400 (also free) - it has a intel 945P chipset, and apparently its a no-go on the quads

thats what i was referring to tho, im really not going to build a new machine for this game.. but i will upgrade this machine to the max

the next rig i build will have a i7 cpu and 6gb ram, loaded with win7 64bit... and ive been waiting on that cuz its still stupid expensive atm

Of course I have come across a lot of really nice Yank players but unfortunately they are by far the exception. Usually they TK without apology, and the only thing that matters is their score. They all want to be Rambo with the highest score (and this is with coop)

space captain, I suggest you get a quad core for this game. At least a 9550 or if that's too costly to you, a q6600 and overclock it. My E8400 @ 4ghz isn't really fast enough. The game is CPU bound so throw as much CPU as you can at it. Congrats on the upgrade.

i really really like the idea of MP campaigns and that sort of thing - having 2 teams with 2 opposing bases, and multiple missions for victory, etc. - sooo hip

probly gonna splurge on a core2duo 3.0, i wasnt planning on upgrading for this game but it seems to be worth it after all.... should be a nice upgrade from my pentium D 3.0

especially when the part is free Allthumbsup (perks of workin in a tech shop w/ recyclery)

Was playing last night as a ground-pounder and I kid you not, within the span of like 10 minutes, some helo noobs got 4 UH-60s toasted flying too close to the battle.

It is quite entertaining in that respect, watching the grunts learn the hard way.

Dmitri_M: Didn't you make the exact same complaint (which has nothing to do with the game itself) in another thread? What's the point in repeating your story?

Because you still haven't figured it out yet, whoever hosts the server can do so however they like and it's up to you to decide whether or not it's worth staying or switching to a new one.

Wildone: Providing access to all vehicles early on wouldn't allow the devs to control the flow of the story and missions as they wanted, I'm guessing.

The way they've done it they can introduce new elements gradually to keep it interesting and also make sure that the player learns how to use a wide variety of weapons/vehicles. If they provided you with tanks right off the bat then what's the incentive to use anything else? Seeing the tanks parked near your base early on is just done for "decoration" purposes.

Whether or not this is the best way to go is obviously a matter of personal preference, but I don't mind it, myself - the infantry combat has always been my favorite part :).
