Risen to Rise in October

Deep Silver announces an October 2 worldwide release date for Risen, the Windows and Xbox 360 role-playing game from Piranha Bytes that at one time was being developed under the working title Project PPB. Word is that all voice-overs have been recorded and the game is now feature complete. "We're excited to be able to announce the release date for Risen this far in advance," says Deep Silver. "We've been in beta for a few weeks now and are focusing on stamping out the remaining bugs and optimizing gameplay."

Oh hell ya!

Damn so much progress since 2000, we are actually getting English updates and interviews on EU games. It was nigh impossible to find out much about Gothic in 2001, well unless you spoke German or were lucky enough to find RPGDot, now RPGWatch.

The next year we got Arx Fatalis, then 2003 Gothic II. Chaser in 2003, though not an RPG and had huge spawning AI issues, but still it was damn good looking with a pretty great Total Recall story.

I know there were more, those are some of the ones that stood out in the FPS and RPG categories, since m$ was in it's prime of destroying the PC game industry att.

Please don't let this suck.

NOT the best choice of name as far as us Risen 3D fans are concerned!

G1 and G2 were uniquely bad ass as RPGs.. theres nothing quite like them

somewhat of a cross between adventure game and RPG, with variable open world stuff that was actually interesting

G3 was like a turd in a box. it was a total blight on the gothic name, i dont blame PB for starting from scratch

Yeah, this is about the only game I'm looking forward to this year. I really hope it's on par with Gothic 2: Night of the Raven.

G3 was okay after the patches, better than Oblivion (which isn't difficult) but not as good as the first two.

I was looking forward to Alpha Protocol but it's starting to look like some kind of console shooter with labels everywhere, cover system, etc. etc.

Dragon Age looked promising but it too seems to be part of 'the new shit' shit.

Hope PB doesn't screw this up.

Trine and Risen; just about the only games worth buying for this year.

Gothic 3, on the other hand, is another matter entirely.
You should try it with the 1.72 Community Patch. It is awesome and works like a charm. Recently I spent 5 weeks playing the game daily for hours at a time. Gothic 3 v1.72 is one hell of a great game.

I didn't have too many bug issues with the first two games. They weren't exactly polished but the bugs were pretty minor. Gothic 3, on the other hand, is another matter entirely.

I'm just hoping it isn't buggy as hell like the Gothic games.

I'm looking forward to this. It looks to have a lot more in common with Gothic 1/2 than Gothic 3. It definitely looks better than Arcania too.
