ARMA II Patch

The Bohemia Interactive Forums announce the release of a new version 1.02 build 58134 patch for ARMA II (thanks I Love Slippery Jim), even though a version 1.02 patch was already released a week ago for the military shooter sequel (which seems to defy the whole concept behind version numbers). As described here, the new patch is to implement full support for anti-aliasing:
* our main reason to release an updated 1.02 version is newly implemented full support for anti-aliasing in this build that we believe increases visual quality significantly without any major performance impact

* this patch is compatible with all previously released versions (1.00, 1.01 and 1.02)

* all versions 1.02 remain compatible in multiplayer and also savegames from various versions 1.02 are compatible so the transition process to this updated version 1.02, build 58134 should be as seamless as possible for all users

Someone needs to go through all of Shatner's work and pull the relevant words/phrases out, and release it as a mod. That would be awesome.

$60 hourly and a 1k$ advance, and im there

A few things, if you installed the older 1.2 patch you'll get a message saying the 1.2 patch is already installed when you run this one (it'll also patch very quickly). The new patch will still be applied, you'll see the full screen anti-aliasing option enabled. Even on low it greatly increases image quality.

This new patch brings copies UP TO the same rev as the steam version (including steam demo). These are hot fixes they where able to squeeze into the Steam version, and are now offered to the rest of us without waiting for a 1.3 patch.

If you have an uber rig you can set the 3-D render resolution higher then your display resolution and you now have Super-Sampling Anti-Aliasing :p Probably something to use up the road unless you're running the game on a fast system on a lower res monitor.

There's a mod that greatly reduces the robotic radio-chatter. Check out the mods section. There's another that makes everyone's aim less pinpoint accurate. Firefights now last much longer, and are more forgiving about your poking your head around a corner for a few seconds (though you'll still get hit well enough).

To use a mod, create a folder like @mods then within that folder create another folder called AddOns. Place any .pbo's into the AddOns folder and add -mod=@mods (or whatever name you go with) to your launch shortcut.

Well if you managed through Men of War's voice acting, I'm sure you can manage through this.

And the Shatner comparison, why didn't that ever pop into my head?

I can live with the voice acting..especially after playing Men of War. A game which I really like but I still think has the worst voice overs so far. But I have not tried the demo of this game yet....

LOL!

Now I won't be able to play this game without picturing him talking into a mic back at HQ. That's £25 wasted thank you very much!

The first mod I installed for ArmA was one that disabled the radio commands and confirmations, they've always been notoriously dodgy going all the way back to Flashpoint 1985. I always compared them to those cut and pasted ransom notes that kidnappers make out of different newspaper and magazine letters.

There was a great mod that greatly lowered the verbosity of the radio system and added single context sensitive full sentences, I imagine something similar isn't too far off for the sequel.

DO NOT TARNISH MST3K by comparing it to ARMA II! And no, I could actually tolerate the voices in OpFor... but this is all sorts of ugly.

I just don't understand why games have different release dates in Europe and in the US.

Europeans are generally more forgiving towards unfinished games than Americans are.

Is the European version any different from the one sold in the US? Are the same patches apply to both versions?

Nope, they're the same.

yep, one patch for all versions, except for Steam of course.

The voices have always been pretty bad. But it's a good kind of bad, like in a LOL, MST3K kind of way.

However, it still has that slightly awkward feeling to the movement and environment interaction that every past game has had (not that I can't live with it!).

Yeah it's too bad they think this is realistic and how soldiers really move around. But I guess since their hardcore fan base actually like it somehow, they leave it in to not lose them. They would be in a world of shit if they lost their hardcore fan base.

Man, I really want to like this game, but the voice-over work is just the most horrible shit iv'e ever heard in a game and just that alone almost makes the game unplayable. Is there a way to completley just turn off the voices?

I have to completely agree with you about the voice acting it is god awful. However the game play mechanics are solid & fun, so I can over look that. And the mod community for this game is awesome.
