Did BIS kill your dog, rape your daughter and sell your mother to slavery or something Jim?

Very close. They raped my cat, and sold my daughter and mother into slavery. How the heck did you know?

Actually they did something worse. They gave me a game that had a lot of potential and then just let it die without fixing it.

BTW, does the Steam release date of June 26th refer to NA? It seems like it does.

Pretty sure it is the 27th, but yes, it is NA release. If you are in NA, you won't get games advertised to your STEAM account unless they are NA releases. (It's been on STEAM in Europe for a while now)

Nope, I was wrong, it is the 26th. (They changed it.) Go Gamer is shipping Arma 2 as of yesterday. (No word on if it is the NA or European version)

Settings must be mysterious to the uninitiated. That is BIS's fault, because with an 8800, you can get decent frames at 1900x1200.

I have a simple E6600 and nVidia260/216 and the game runs great with 1600 viewdistance. Try 100% fillrate and low terrain detail. I have my post-processing set on very high and the game runs great.

Not sure what to tell you cliffski but I managed to run it at quite reasonable performance at average settings even on older video card as I wait to upgrade.

Don't worry about performance. It will take them 3 years to patch Arma 2 just like it has taken them to patch Arma1. By then we will all have computers fast enough to run the game on medium settings.

I have no idea what machines reviewers played it on

What resolution are you playing at?
I have a Athlon X2 4200, 2 GB RAM, and a Radeon HD 4670, and it runs smoothly enough on "high" settings at 1280 x 1024.

I was going to wait for reviews/patches/planetary alignment/demo but I ended up buying the first copy I saw for sale. It's good, so far. Using 1.02, it's very stable and I've only seen a few bugs.

Cliffski, you're the developer of Democracy, right? I bought Democracy 2, good game Your performance is well below what I'd expect.

I have what is probably considered a mid to mid-high range PC (C2D@3.3Ghz, 4GB, Geforce 260) and I'm running it at 1920x1200 (@ 100%) and generally high settings. It runs at about 40fps and is very consistent, the minimum I get is about 25fps but that's rare. Given how high a resolution that is, I think that's pretty decent. I have all post-processing disabled. I actually turned it off for the visual improvement (motion blur sucks) but it's typically expensive so that could be harming your framerate. Also, keep view distance low and the 3D resolution (fill rate) down a bit unless you can't stand aliasing.

Your computer is too old for an OS released 2 years ago, let alone a game released today. Time to stop being a cheapskate.

My machines is a core 1 duo 2 gigs 8800 GTS, and it ran so badly as to be unplayable, and that's even on very low res with everything at bottom.

I'm running it on a Core2 Duo (E8400), 2GB RAM, 8800 GTS on Vista x64. I'm getting a good framerates with everything set to normal.

BTW, does the Steam release date of June 26th refer to NA? It seems like it does

Hope so Rifle

There is just no other experience out there like playing OpFlash and Arma. Yeah, I know it's buggier than a fire ant hill but damn! This game series serves up such a unique experience that I hardly care. I'm excited.

I looked forward to this and bought it, but have since lost interest and here is why:

The game has stupidly high demands of your PC for even the very lowest, and most mediocre graphics settings. My PC happily runs COD 4 and Company Of heroes on high-very high, but it struggled on 'very low' with Arm-A. I have no idea what machines reviewers played it on, but I'm guessing minimum quad core PCs with cutting edge SLI and 4 gigs of RAM.
My machines is a core 1 duo 2 gigs 8800 GTS, and it ran so badly as to be unplayable, and that's even on very low res with everything at bottom.
I'm sure there is a great game in here struggling to get out, but unless your PC is ninja-spec be very wary of buying this without trying a demo.

I know, I have participated in a battle or two like that. The best gaming experience money can buy; so long as the server doesn't crash and the match has to restart, the battle rages for hours, logistics has to be taken into account, the works. I recommend it to anyone, and as soon as an ARMA2 tournament starts I'll buy the game.

Supposedly today or tomorrow for the demo. Guess I'll try it out because we still have 2½ weeks until store shelves. Source = Link

Is it true that multiplayer is limited to 50 players per server?

The actual limit is "no limit". There is no hardcoded limit. It really depends on the server bandwidth more than anything else. 50 players is pretty much the highest that have been tested. There has been community tests with several hundred players in a game of Arma1.

I bought the game in hopes that they'll fix the remaining issues. Even if they don't, there's a lot of content in there and the mod community is very productive for both ArmA games which I think will make the game far better than the base game.

Hey thanks for the gogamer reference! Ordered a copy from there just now. I know the game is clunky, tiny player count considering the huge size of the map, has bugs, might have some performance issues, etc etc.. But I think I will enjoy it and will get my money's worth. I also want to support BiS and hope other companies will follow their example and make more and better games like this.
