Aion Preorders

The Aion Website outlines the preorder program for Aion, NCsoft's upcoming MMORPG. Preorders are being accepted for both the standard edition as well as the limited-run collector's edition (thanks IncGamers). Preorder bonuses include beta access, a sweepstakes, in-game items, a head start, and the chance to preselect character names and servers. Here's the deal:
Aion Limited Collector's Edition and Aion Standard Edition First-Run SteelBook Cases

Be one of the first players to have the grace to soar and the power to dominate in the divided world of the Aion MMORPG. We will release only 35,000 copies of the Aion Limited Collector's Edition in North America, so don't miss out.

Aion Preorder Bonuses

      • Aion Beta Events: Preorder and receive a code to access all of the remaining Aion beta events.
      • Preorder Aion Game Sweepstakes: Play in an Aion beta event, and you’ll have a chance to win a killer Alienware notebook, ATI video cards, or other great prizes (see Preorder Aion Game Sweepstakes below).
      • Preorder-Only In-Game Items: In-game items will be available for use during the head start program.
         • Black Cloud Hat (gives boosts to HP, MP, magical resistance, and evasion)
         • Lodas' Amulet (gives a +20% experience boost for 1 hour)
         • One Ancient Ring of Power (type depends on your preorder retailer): Ancient Ring of Fire (GameStop), Ancient Ring of Magic (Best Buy), Ancient Ring of Earth (Amazon.com), Ancient Ring of Water, or Ancient Ring of Wind.
      • Head Start Program: Get a 48-hour head start to the live game before the game releases.
      • Preselection: Select your character names and server in advance of the game going live.

Aion is nothing like WoW. The only people that say that are the people's whose only MMO experience is WoW. Those people don't count at all.

Aion feels like EQ1 combinesd with L2, with RvR being DAoC crossed with Warhammer. All of the good things pulled from each game. The classes are a mashup of common abilities for an archetype with some updates. The game is not ezmode casual like WoW, but it's not as grindy as L2. The client and servers are rock solid stable. The client typically gives 150fps on mid/high computers on max graphics. There only minor lag and I mean minor is in the capital cities. The graphics are the best I've ever seen in an MMO. It's a technical masterpiece. I would highly recommend you jump into one of the beta/preview events.

Played the beta - I was absolutely astonished to see that there was no way to invert the mouse. Other than that, it seemed pretty cool, but with no invert mouse I cannot play it.

Why all the hating on Asian mmo's? There's allot to be said for games you can play with one hand.

i wonder if anyone remembers a game that was announced YEARS ago, like '97 or so.. iirc it was going to be a MMO, and you had all these winged characters and floating islands and so forth.. it was called "Skies" - but as far as i know it never came out

this game really reminds me of that

Another Asian MMO. Looks really good but is nothing but a complete grind.

Only one to break the mold (but still a bit of a grind) is FFXI.

Gotta love the trolls... if you aren't going to post constructive, save your energy.

That being said, I'd call it a mix between Guild Wars and WoW, with better graphics and interface controls than both.
"We can do this one of two ways. There's the hard way, which involves hours of discussion, tons of negotiation, half a dozen bribes, and no guarantee of success."
"What's the easy way?"
"Liberally placed high explosives."

I've heard it described as WoW with Wings by a bunch of people who played the beta events. (WoWwW?)

It looks pretty, but ask Forrest how that works out.

It doesn't differ. I jumped into the beta and was in a field with everyone else told to kill x wamprats or whatever and immediately uninstalled.

Has anyone played this yet? It looks pretty good but I just don't like Asia MMOs. How does it differ from the standard asian MMO?
