Tex Murphy on GOG.com

GOG.com now offers two installments in the Tex Murphy series of dystopian adventure games, updated with Windows Vista compatibility and no digital rights management. They kick things off with a bundle of Tex Murphy 1+2 and Under a Killing Moon, and say this about the future: "Thanks to the deal with Aaron Conners, one of the creators of the Tex Murphy games, GOG.com will offer the whole series including Mean Streets, Martian Memorandum, Under a Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive and Tex Murphy: Overseer."

I played Mean Streets on the C64 and the game just blew me away. It seemed more detailed than Flight Simulator 2 in its flying part and the graphics really pushed the C64.

Hope we'll see Crimewave too. These Access titles were amazing for their time, with full motion video and also digital sound support without a soundcard. I forget what it was called, maybe "RealSound," but it allowed for digital voice and music straight to the PC speaker. I remember playing Martian Memorandum and just being stunned by the witness interviews with full video and real human voices. Makes 1991 seem like a really long time ago.

Edit: Yep, "RealSound"... amazing

Wow. Under a Killing Moon... Great choice and great game. Any word on whether the UAKM sequels might make it to GOG too? (It's been so long the names escape me... Pandora, was it?)

Edit: Nevermind... Perhaps I should RTFM:

Any chance we'll see bundle deals Tom?

Not sure about bundle deals yet. Not for a while, in any event.

Ahhh, memories... Martian Memorandum, how I miss thee. I might just have to get these for nostalgia sake. I'm betting the software rendered 3D in the later titles no longer renders at 1 frame every 2 or 3 seconds like it did on my Cyrix p150+ back in the day.

Under a Killing Moon was one of my fondest gaming memories. It was one of only a handful of games where I really felt transported to a different world.

Oh man, at first I was like "Tex Murphy?" but when I saw the box art a flood of memories came back to me. That is awesome indeed!

So many fond memories of this game. I remember getting close the end and for I think the game kept crashing, or whatever I was supposed to do wasn't working. (I think it was a bug) I've always wanted to finish this game.

I think that was martian memorandum. I love these old games! Keep up the good work GOG.

This completely rocks. Martian Memorandum was the first PC game I ever played that didn't come with Windows or MS-DOS. Rock on.

Totally nin. Don't forget Countdown.

I played Mean Streets, Martian Memorandum, and Under a Killing Moon! UAKM was incredible back in the day. I think it came out during the FMV boom in the early 90's alongside other noticeables like Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger. I don't know what happened but I missed a chance to play Pandora Directive and Overseer. I guess now would be a good time.

Any chance we'll see bundle deals Tom?

Awesome! They finally removed the intrusive, draconian DRM that kept me from playing it the first time!

Very cool! Thanks to Aaron and the GOG team!

edit: Who owns the rights to Crime Wave? That was another cool Access one.
