Out of the Blue

Well, I accomplished my birdfeeder project over the weekend but it was perfect timing to mention it and the whole squirrel situation yesterday, as all day I got to experience the impact of rodents on a feeder. First I found the feeder on the ground, as even though I installed a swivel, a screwed together part came unscrewed. I replaced it (and all the spilled feed), and a little later it happened again. Hmmm. I fixed it again, and made sure these parts were screwed together tighter, so next time I checked, the ring that holds the top in place was still hanging, and the feeder was again on the ground, so clearly the squirrels have already learned right is tight and left is loose, as they were deliberately unscrewing it. I tightened that screw further, and the feeder has stayed in place since, but I have seen a (chubby) squirrel working on it again a couple of times already. I had a conversation with him this morning about not knocking the feeder over, but I'm not sure he understood.

Know what pisses me off, huh? You know what really gets me mad in this life? It's the goddamn periodic table of elements. They've got 109 or so naturally occuring elements. Then they've got 10 or 11 of these non-naturally occuring man-made elements. They give them names like Einsteinium, Californium, and Nobelium. And what I want to know is: If they're man-made... just how the hell can they be elements, huh?

See, this is where the fun starts. Can you outsmart a squirrel?

I expect updates.

There are feeders which spin if too much weight is on them, hence spin the squirrels off but ignores the birds. Seen some pretty funny videos of those...

I had a conversation with him this morning about not knocking the feeder over, but I'm not sure he understood.

Let's see if I got how this conversation quickly turned into one of mass confusion on the squirrel's part:

Blue: "Hey, stop screwing with my nuts"

The solution, Blue, is a BB gun. Couple cracks with that, squirrels won't come around again.

I've got to agree, if you're in a sub-urban area go with a pellet or BB gun....if you're in a rural area a .22 is a lot more effective. I've hit them with a BB gun or Pellet gun and they don't get the hint. Fortunately a .22 doesn't hint.

Unless you live on a farm without another house within miles, using a .22 to shoot squirrels around your house would be pretty irresponsible.

Not at all. You just have to know how to use it responsibly. If you're actually in a rural area and you are careful, it's quite safe.

Most farms have numerous houses within a mile.

If the feeder is made of wood, pound a dozen nails up through the top, so they stick up like spikes. Otherwise, you can glue broken glass to the top.

My favorite solution: some wire mesh and a car battery.

I'm surprised Batman hasn't chimed in here. Doesn't he refer to squirrels as Tree Rats?

Infinite Mario Bros. doesn't click for me to play.

The detailed instructions at the bottom says to hit "s" to stsrt. In the game, use the arrow keys to move, "a" is to shoot fireballs/run/super-jump/etc., "s" is to jump.

Was fun for about 30 seconds since the controls were hard to get used to.
