Also, I would like recieve a plausible explanation about this. When Rockstar released Vice City a year after GTA III, everyone, and I mean everyone was praising it and giving it perfect reviews. It contained the same basic gameplay mechanics as GTAIII, with a new skin and such. It wasn't an expansion, it was a full priced sequel But somehow, when Valve does this, they get nothing but shit from their fans.
I am a huge Valve fan. I have been since Half Life. But I am giving them grief because of the way they are doing business with L4D that is out of character
for them. It has always been my opinion that L4D was shipped with far too little content, but I bought it thinking that if TF2 was given all of the fantastic support it got from Valve post release, then L4D would enjoy the same level of support. Now, some will say that it's my fault for assuming that, and to an extent that is certainly true. But when a company has done everything so right for so long like Valve has, they tend to set their own standard, and that standard is high. Did Valve support L4D after release, and did it do so even more than some other publishers do for their games? Undoubtedly they did. But for Valve, the post-release support for L4D was far under what they usually provide, thus my disappointment. This, coupled with my aforementioned feeling that the game shipped with too little content to justify full price, again, especially for a Valve release, which is usually brimming with value, a la Orange Box, has changed my opinion of Valve and their business practices somewhat.
So yeah, you could say I'm shitting on Valve, but I'm still a fan. Just a disappointed one now that it's pretty much confirmed that no real content is coming for the original (which has certainly not received anywhere near the level of support that we have come to expect from Valve) and those of us who felt the game was and still is too thin have to hope that the community fills in the gaps, so to speak.
I will buy more from Valve in the future, but I no longer trust them like I once did. Many here will say I never should have in the first place, as it's buyer beware in the games business, but I've learned my lesson now.
