AvP Trailer, Details

SEGA's Aliens vs. Predator Product Section has a teaser trailer with a snippet what may be gameplay footage from the upcoming Aliens vs. Predator game in the works at Rebellion. Three new screenshots depict the game's three points of view (monster, hunter, and lunch), and they say the game is due for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in early 2010, and offer the following description:
Aliens vs Predator is an entirely new title for PC and high-definition consoles from acclaimed British developer Rebellion, the team behind the 1999 original PC gaming classic.

Bringing the most intense war between two of science-fiction’s most popular characters FPS fans, AvP delivers three outstanding single player campaigns and provides untold hours of unique 3-way multiplayer gaming.

Experience distinctly new and thrilling first person gameplay as you survive, hunt and prey in the deadly jungles and swamps surrounding the damned colony of Freya’s Prospect.

- As the Marine, you’ll experience a claustrophobic and terrifying experience where light is your friend, but there’s never enough. However, the United States Marine Corps are humanity’s last line of defence, and as such they are armed to the teeth with the very latest in high explosive and automatic weaponry.

- As the Predator, you will stalk from the shadows and from above, passing athletically through the treetops to ambush your victims. Although equipped with an array of powerful, exotic weapons and tracking equipment, honour ultimately dictates that you must get in close and take your trophies face to face.

- As the most deadly species in the universe, the Alien offers you the chance to play as the very stuff of nightmares - the monster in the dark swarming forward with countless others, jaws like a steel trap and claws like blades.

- Play all sides off against each other in a series of unique 3-way online modes and go tooth-to-claw-to-pulse rifle in the reinvention of one of multiplayer gaming’s defining moments.

I wonder how they'll balance the Predator, particularly in multiplayer. He's always felt out of place simply because he's good at everything. He can turn invisible and annihilate enemies with his plasma cannon.

I remember playing this the first time and those Aliens crawling from floor to wall, then to the ceiling. That was really creepy stuff playing alone in the dark lol. All the different vision filters the predator had was cool. I would very much re-up for this one.

in Rebellion. They created the awesome still fondly remembered Jaguar cartridge version, and the stellar (at the time) PC version. It is fitting they get to take a swing at AVP 3. And imho they will do it right. So far if the pics are any indication, they got the visuals feel nailed.

No anime` crap, and no candy colors. *thumbs up*

It should be interesting to see what they can do, with a real next gen engine.

A common misconception that I think some fans have is that they think the AvP series was born from the cameo trophy scene in Predator 2 which, in fact, Dark Horse had it in print almost a year prior to the release.

As for the armor, it's the 'in' thing. Warhammer 40k, Gears, Star Craft etc.. seem to be hit with armor fever.

@ sc4r4b

Exactly. Some tools just don't get it. But that doesn't stop them from crying about canon.

From the movies, the marines aren't heavily armed at all. Thats just crap. They have two rifles, a shotgun. Thats it. Heavily armed my ass.

Gotta love PR.

Anyway, AvP2 is amongst my best game of all time. Still have it installed actually. Love running around as a marine knowing full well that not only am I outnumbered - I don't have a fucking clue and the only certainty is that death is a save game away.

Is it just me but isnt anyone in the least bit WORRIED that they are basing this of the CRAPTASTIC, FUCKED UP MOVIE that is AvP2??????????????????

They're not. I'm quoting this directly from the PC Gamer article :

"Yet there's still a question mark hanging over any new AVP game: hasn't Hollywood destroyed the franchise with a series of abysmal sci-fi flicks?

Jones doesn't outright condemn the films, but he does explain that his game won't be inspired by these shoddy film efforts. "The AVP games have always keyed off the original Alien and Predator movies, and I think the fans are hungry for a face-off set far away from Earth, where the story isn't constrained by realities of movie budgets."

So unless the guy who is MAKING the game is lying to PC Gamer, this will have little to nothing to do with the shitty movies.

Not based on the shithole movie. The PC Gamer preview show spulse rifles, so obviously they fucked up the press release (PR people fucking up? NO WAY!) and meant to say COLONIAL MARINES. (Bad hombres!)

Wow, looks much better than I thought!! I wonder if it's using the Unreal enginer??

When I purchased MY first PC back in 1999 the first game I bought was AVP. I made sure that PC was powerful enough to play it. Pentium III 450 mhz, 128Mb Ram, Nvidia TNT2, and 16Gb HDD with 19in CRT monitor. $1800 well spent, lol.

It was shit, yeah, but I'm guessing Fox didn't allocate the Strause brothers very much in the way of funding, so all the teen drama shit was filling. I think it's fair to say that hiring young actors and setting up a drama in a school is a lot cheaper than having marines kicking arse in outter space.

The Predator owned in the flick though, but nothing should be able to manhandle aliens like he did.

I'm biased though, I'll take any and all AvP over no AvP any day of the week. That's just how much I like the subject matter.

What we can't tell from the shots though is how many console controller compromises they've made.

I look forward to any Aliens title. AvP was great.

The original AvP (game) was mostly based on the James Cameron film Aliens, and that is what gave it that otherworldy creep factor but what the fuck is this:

However, the United States Marine Corps are humanity’s last line of defence, and as such they are armed to the teeth with the very latest in high explosive and automatic weaponry

I hope this is a mistake because if I have to fight Aliens in some hick U.S. mid-western town (as in the total garbage that was the AvP2 movie) I think Ill pass on this game.

Ok I noticed just now that the screens are in a Sci-Fi setting, so hopefully the news blurb is wrong....still worried though....

LOOKS FF****KKKKINGGGG awesome so far can't wait

The main reason why I didnt like AvP2 as much as AvP was because the sounds werent nearly as good or as original as the ones in AvP. Especially the weapon sounds were completely different. Just not like the movies. Also the predator wasnt as cool anymore. There were a lot of small details that they didnt do like they were in the movies.

The campaigns were awesome, though. I will never forget when I had to run out of the facility and when I looked back while running away I saw dozens of aliens chasing me.

Oh and the Multiplayer sucked horribly. The netcode was a total disaster. I never had a ping below 350.

I just hope they stick to the formula that made the original game so compelling

The preview in this month's PC Gamer seems to indicate that they are absolutely staying true to that whole idea and feel.

However, the United States Marine Corps are humanity’s last line of defense, and as such they are armed to the teeth with the very latest in high explosive and automatic weaponry.

....you might want to tell your modelers to stop making them look like Colonial Marines with pulse rifles ala Aliens, then. And your writers that the point of the Marines is to deploy to anywhere more quickly then the other "lines of defense" until the Army can ass itself in with better numbers and assets. (Or the more likely solution: tell the PR guy writing this stuff to actually figure out what the hell is going on in the fiction he's supposed to be pitching.) Then again, if this plays as awesome as it looks just from those screenies, I'll live with a little timeline/setting confusion.

What are they making this on, anyway? I thought I read awhile back that the engine was being made in-house, but this looks a helluvalot like Cryengine 2.

Here's hoping that one multiplayer mode starting out with one Alien with a zombie effect on its kills makes it in. "I haven't seen all the other players in a few seconds, let me hit tab and see if they're still here. Oh THEY'RE ALL ALIENS NOW WELL THIS IS HARDLY IDEAL OH CRAP WHAT'S MOVING AT THE CORNER OF MY SCREEN."

I remember starting one game mode of avp just to see how long I could survive, and it was the most tense and scary thing I have ever experienced. Eventually you wind up at a series of bunkers and the waves of aliens and predaliens just keep coming.

I liked avp2 a lot, too. When you're running out of that complex and theres a hoard of friggin aliens chasing you...omfg that was nightmarish!

Feature?! AvP was one of the most difficult games I ever played because of the limited save system. It was even hard on easy-mode iirc. I hated the save system. If the encounters weren't as random as they were it would have been a bit easier.

I really thought AvP2 was done right except it was really, really short...

Graphics here look great and knowing Rebellion is at the helm I am curious to see what they do especially with the multiplayer.
