"OpFP was amazing but ArmA turned me off so bad - I feel like I paid for something I haven't got yet."

OFP was amazing, after they fixed the buggy vehicle control. ARMA I was cool, but did feel like it was missing something. I played FPs sp campaigne 3 times thru, and had all the cool mods for it ala Kegeteys hi rez skies, hi rez weaps, sound etc etc etc.

But I felt no compulsion to even complete ARMA at all. I really hope FP II and ARMA II both deliver. A big plus for me will be if the squad A.I. command structure is simplified. For both games.

It will certainly be interesting to read reviews. ARMA2 ought to be awesome at some point. I just hope it's sooner rather than later!

Cant wait for this.

Sure, Arma I and OFP were buggy as hell, but I still played them like theres no tomorrow because they were so awesome. Even big bugs couldnt hurt the fun I had with them, and thats when you know that a game is truly awesome.

Also this is one of the now very rare TRUE PC games. I rather have a buggy PC game than a pristine console port.

I have given up on waiting for BIS to come back to their senses and do a real ArmA 2 successor.

...the fact that a major feature has been implemented roughly a month from release doesn't sound too good...

It's only major if it was high on their priority list. If the engine was set up to impliment it at a late stage without much hassle, then it's not necessarily a bad thing to have it take place so late in development.

BI is so very slow to release the patches. What takes them almost two years needs to be done in six months.

Amen to that. Most of the patches are fixes for new bugs they introduced in the patches.

The fanboys keep raving about how much support they get years later from BIS but it took them over a year to release a single buggy patch.

1.14 was the last official patch that left my game crashing every hour. Most of the time when I exit the game my screen goes black and I have to reboot my computer.

Finally they got things right in 1.16 YEARS after release (but it is still just a beta patch).

If you want Arma 2 to work properly buy it in 2 years.

I don't know, game looks like it's running pretty well to me.

Select beta testers from the community have been playing the game. This guy was allowed to show off a bit of the game and how it interacts with the head tracker demonstrated here.

Also if you haven't played ArmA recently with the new A.C.E mod. It really does have the old OpFlash feel now. There's a pinned forum topic on the official forums relating to addons for immersion. A.C.E. pretty much took care of about 90% of the long list of mods that where in that thread when it came along. Just make the modifications to the ini file described at the beginning of that thread to make the enemy less spot on deadly, add ACE and you're good to go.

I played Operation Flashpoint and now ArmA to death, and honestly I'm completely happy with ArmA now (I use ECS + ACE), where as in the beginning all I could see in ArmA was potential.

Edit: the focus of this video is on how TrackIR integrates with the game, but a ton of HD in game footage begins halfway into the video if you don't have any interest in the TrackIR.

ARMA has no peer. It is probably the farthest thing away from shit, which would be MYST. BI supports their releases and I look forward to returning the favor when ARMA2 hits the shelves.

Actually, Derek raises a good point. He's a developer, after all (and you may not believe it, but he knows what's he's talking about - ask him about the early BC3000AD's release, if you will), and the fact that a major feature has been implemented roughly a month from release doesn't sound too good, as far as the quality of the release version goes. I, for one, would expect it to be buggy, as in "STALKER buggy".

Of course, STALKER is a great game now, after a few patches. The same may be true of ArmA 2, but we'll have to wait and see.

OpFP was amazing but ArmA turned me off so bad - I feel like I paid for something I haven't got yet. I'm not justifying piracy and I won't be pirating this but I will be waiting and unless the response is incredibly positive, I'll want a demo.

Oh? They just had water implemented and they're releasing within the next three weeks?

uhm, ok.

I'm gonna sit this out until the third or fourth path methinks.

I'll definitely be adopting a wait and see attitude with this one... as well as OpFlash 2. In the end I'll probably buy whichever one is the better game.

By purchasing this game, you're supporting Bohemia's non-existent pre-release testing policy.

OpFlash was amazing. ARMA was shit and it cost me €40 to find that out. Don't buy ARMA II. Please!

Since it is an extension of the ArmA engine, they likely have a lot of bugs worked out already and it is unlikely to be as bad as ArmA was.

Still, I'd expect a lot of scripting errors and poor design decisions in the campaign. In ArmA I had to play the first mission three times--including the long, long unskipable introduction--before I managed to actually get out of the Humvee before someone shot me in the face.

I'd be pretty shocked & disappointed if this game cant land a U.S. publisher. But given the current economic times I can see the risks.

I dont see any info that it will be released in the U.S. No pre-orders from Amazon, etc. This might be an import only game?

No US publisher has been announced yet, 505 Games is a UK game publisher. gogamer.com normally sells imported games, they have the 505 version of ArmA on their site.
