Champions Online Delayed

The Champions Online Website announces September 1 is the new release date for the super-powered MMORPG Cryptic was planning for release in July, saying this will offer "more beta play time right now and a better, more polished game at launch." Here's more from Cryptic's Bill Roper:
“It is critically important for an MMO to be as good as it possibly can be at launch. Through our constant dialogue with our vocal and supportive community of beta testers, we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time. So that's what we're going to give it. Cryptic has a proven track record of releasing solid games and we want to maintain that with Champions Online.”

If they use those 3-4 months to polish what's already in the game, then yes. If they jam 3-4 months more junk in the game and launch with it all being half finished, then no.

This.is.Atari.

I read that in a 300/Leonidas roaring voice in my head.

Kind of appropriate considering the movie is about a futile gesture of suicidal defiance.

Yeah, I am Bill Roper's wife and he told me yesterday in the sack that he doesn't know any Flatline clown. He also said that he got the job "cuz I gots skillz". His words not mine.

Whatever.

It's easy. Anyone can do it. He shows up at the Southern California Renaissance Faire a few weekends every season to sing with a group that he helped found 15 years ago called The Poxy Boggards. Bring him a beer and he'll talk. Throw tomatoes at him if you want even.

Stupid Trivia: The Boggards are thanked in the notes from Warcraft 2 and have a little bit of their singing in the game.

So Bill Roper is married to a guy named MrBone? LOL.

This.is.Atari. 'nuff said.

'm curious too. I've met Roper outside of the industry setting a few times, and while he's a genuinely nice guy and pretty charismatic, it's surprising that he'd get another chance at a large project so quickly after his last one fell apart.

um they cant do actual gameplay for shit? Besides the repetitiveness of CoH, it had the best combat system in the genre for quite a few years. It certainly blows the shit of WoW to this day.

I doubt another year or two would help. Cryptic doesn't know how to make games. They know how to utilize other people's systems, they know know how to create some interesting art assets, but they can't do actual gameplay for shit. No matter, I'm sure DCUO and whatever Marvel has coming down the pipes will bury them in short order.

And Bill Roper needs to find a new industry to wreck.

It's not as repetative as Heroes/Villians at all, if anything it's setup much like WoW. Vast majority of the missions are outdoors, with exceptions being instanced like CoH/CoV. It has the public quests ala Warhammer Online, and so far I'm vastly impressed with the state of the game, and how much it's NOT CoH/CoV.

As for the delay, this is a good thing. The Dev's are really listening to the best testers and moving your first encounters with your Nemesis to the 20-25 level range instead of 30-35 range, along with closely following feedback on all missions, powers, etc.

As for Bill, I have no fucking clue why he's the 'frontman' for Champions Online. As he stated before his roll is that like when he was back with Blizzard. He helps finish up projects, which is a good thing.

The game is coming along solid, but it REALLY needed to be delayed. That extra 3-4 months will do wonders.

Also, I would love to know why they gave Roper a job. "OOooh, we have a fairly successful frnchise in the City of series. Let's hire someone who will know how to make that not happen with our next game."

I want to know how they plan to make this not as boring/repetitive as Heroes/Villains.

Also, I would love to know why they gave Roper a job. "OOooh, we have a fairly successful frnchise in the City of series. Let's hire someone who will know how to make that not happen with our next game."
