I went on some errands yesterday and achieved an unparalleled degree of failure
in accomplishing anything. I found a listing at Wal-Mart for a water-mister
dealie we've been looking for to cool people on the deck during the summer, but
it was impossible to find anyone there capable of reading their own name tag,
much less help me locate this hard-to-find item. Plan B was to hit PetSmart and
find a new raised food/water bowl for the doggies, but the selection of these
they had was bizarre, as they all seemed designed to accommodate dogs small
enough that they could walk under our two leggy beasts. Having failed at my two
efforts at productivity, I stopped at Best Buy, as I have some Reward Zone
credits to redeem, and there's no way a geek like myself could fail to find
something there. Of course, following my theme of futility, they were in the
midst of some sort of localized power outage, and were closed when I arrived.
Sometimes you can't win.

"living wage" using national averages is bullshit. It depends entirely on local cost of living.

Depending on region, Wal-Mart associates make around $10 - $12 / hour, which is no longer a living wage for adults in the US. Most have 2nd jobs just to pay the rent, many are not high school grads, many are over 50.
The same is true for Home Depot, Target, and the other major retailers. Add to this the rip-off health benefits scheme at Wal-Mart and it's no wonder only the most desperate and least qualified are working at these places.
I used to feel disdain for these people, blaming them for being just lazy stupid slackers. Until I got a little first hand experience with the situation. Now I feel sorry for them, most are trapped in these kinds of positions with no real way out.
Tiamat's Rebuke is a unique Dragon Shield (Exceptional Kite Shield) and is notable for its strong defense, average elemental resists, and modest elemental damage modifiers. Though reasonably useful it is largely worthless, as it lacks any +skills, which, besides resists or faster cast rate, is the only worthwhile attribute for shields. Tiamat's Rebuke makes a modest placeholder for Paladins until such time as they can acquire the supreme Herald of Zakarum.

Unless you PnP'd back in the day, you wouldn't know who Tiamat was, so it doesn't much matter.

tycho is insanely (obsessively) well-read.. while it may reference D&D specifically in form (considering his vast background of PnP RPG EXP), in regards to the content of the editorial, it may have other intimations to the "hydra" of myth - the source of the multi-headed dragon idea

In Tycho's post he refers to call centers as being outsourced to Gehenna(hell). Which is where Tiamat resides. tiamat is also the "mother" of evil dragons, hence the name of the comic being "The Fivefold Mother".

The one head is distinctly bronzish looking instead of white.
The bluish dragon looks like Malygos, while the black looks basically like every black dragon. I've tackled Eye of Eternity and Obsidian Sanctum so many times that their images are seared into my brain.
Is Tiamat even in D&DO? If not what's the relationship between that and Tycho's complaint regarding bandwidth?
Maybe Penny Arcade did this so that those saturated in WOW lore would make mistakes. You have to admit the drawing looks really close to the WOW dragon aspects; that is, of course, if you play WOW.

Doesn't matter what you play. It's Tiamat, the title of the comic is "The Fivefold Mother". It's got nothing to do with WoW. It's even referred to as "Gehenna" in Tycho's post.
Although, I wonder if Gabe thought it was from WoW when he was drawing it. The one head is distinctly bronzish looking instead of white.

I don't play D&D. I play WOW. I see Alexstrasza (red dragonflight), Malygos (blue dragonflight), Deathwing (black dragonflight), Nozdormu (bronze dragonflight), and Ysera (green dragonflight) all in that panel.
