It's not the fact that they dumb down for consoles but the fact that the companies want to expand their sale opportunities but provide very minimal effort to make correct ports or optimizations for the PC users. You can get some real (optimized) gems like Metal Gear Solid 2 and then you can get a real ugly mess like Resident Evil 4.

You can't put the entire blame on a console when it's the developers who skimp on quality.

You're talking about technical quality. When people say "dumbed down for consoles", they're thinking gameplay.

All that stopping and going and really ruined the experience.

that's a complaint i hear a lot but i thought the game's pacing was flawless, personally. i liked that parts demonstrated how an unequipped but capable person could navigate a seemingly impossible environment, like the atrium that required you to climb five stories straight up an incomplete building without stairs or ladders.

i really hope they make a second one and actually incorporate a good story this time. the first game's only real flaw for me was how seriously it took it's shitty fucking plot. instead of focusing on the illegal information network, runners, the elements of their fucking game world, they had to do the godawful 1984 thing. at least they remembered to name their characters even if they didn't get to personalities.

I hope this is just a gameplay pre-visulisation, and that it's not an indication of how the settings would be. One thing I loved about BGE was the fantasy & sci-fi setting, and this videos shows little of that.

The real shame is titles like this and Psychonauts is that there are too many assholes like me who can't see the forest through the trees and take a leap of faith.

The latter is free on Gametap, so no leap of faith required. That is, assuming you can get their horrible new browser-plugin to work.

I wanted to run and sprint and jump across the city rooftops as fast as I could, not play some crappy platforming sections.

I didn't have a problem with the more intricate platforming segments. I thought they added some nice variety and challenge. What I didn't like were the constant enemy encounters. When you're always getting shot at and chased, you don't have time to experiment or take risks. You'll stick with what you know and won't come to appreciate the broad depth of the movement mechanics. The time trials are where this depth is revealed. Unfortunately, many people never even tried the time trials.

Mirror's Edge would've been amazing if it wasn't plagued with such horrible level design. All that stopping and going and really ruined the experience. I wanted to run and sprint and jump across the city rooftops as fast as I could, not play some crappy platforming sections. For a game about parkour gameplay, there was very little parkour.

It's like the new Sonics where there speed that's supposed to be there isn't.

I thought that Mirror's Edge blew it away in terms of climbing around, jumping across buildings, etc.

Agreed. ME has a lot of depth in its platforming mechanics, far more depth than any platformer in years. An open-world ME would be awesome, even better if they add a storyline that doesn't suck too.

Yea Ass Creed is very.. very different from Beyond Good & Evil. I also hated the whole 'hold down a button and hit the W key to climb' garbage. I thought that Mirror's Edge blew it away in terms of climbing around, jumping across buildings, etc.

And for those that haven't tried BG&E, it's a very fun adventure game. Go to GoG.com and pick it up for $5 and you will not be disappointed.

Well, that's partially right. It's true that publishers want maximum profits with minimal effort, hence the multiplatform nature of most games. However, a good PC port will still never be as good as a game designed specifically for the PC. The best PC games of all time were designed for the PC. The best-selling PC games of all time were designed for the PC. History speaks for itself.

You can get some real (optimized) gems like Metal Gear Solid 2 and then you can get a real ugly mess like Resident Evil 4.

Uh, the MGS2 port was anything but optimized. And good luck playing it with mouse and keyboard. A much better example would have been Bioware's ports where the interfaces have been redesigned for the PC.

Devil May Cry 4 is one of the best PC ports I've ever played. The delay from the console version was totally worth it and the added content and difficulty level made it a day 1 purchase for me.

I can't wait to see how Street Fighter 4 and Resident Evil 5, as much of a disappointment that the game is, turn out for PC.

Not to get on the console bashing wagon, but consoles just dumb down games so much and are so into it for the $ and graphics

You people are crazy if you think this is bg&e2. And crazier if you think this is actual gameplay footage.

Considering that the character in the footage looks exactly like Jade from the official BG&E2 teaser, I'd say that yes, this footage is about BG&E2. And no, obviously it isn't actual gameplay footage. It is very likely a mock-up or proof of concept to give a sense of the gameplay and style of the game.

i don't find the execution of complex moves like that too unbelievable. using a context sensitive control system like assassin's creed where acrobatics are largely automated would make it pretty easy, and it's kind of a necessity for the simplistic nature of console controls.

If BG&E2 is anything like Ass Creed, I'll cry. Games are about gameplay. Sitting there holding down a button while the game does everything for you isn't gameplay.

Anyway, I kinda like the more realistic style but I'd still like to see some fantasy elements. Where are the anthropomorphic animals? I only see humans in the video.

I can't tell you how much I hate that "Automated" play in games like Ass Creed. I mean, yes AC looked beautiful, pretty cool story, but when my friend played it on the xbox and I tried it on the PC I was like:

"Is this game playing its fucking self?"

One button does 20 different things. Its like a Bruce Lee movie where people run up to Bruce, he pop em in the face and the enemy just stands there, deer in head lights, waiting for the next move.

To me it just kills the experience. Not to get on the console bashing wagon, but consoles just dumb down games so much and are so into it for the $ and graphics, i really yearn for the days of great games on shitty computers (Apple IIe, Commodore, Intellivision etc)

"Beyond Good and Evil is a title I have always checked out countless times and for some reason a voice in the back of my head says "it's probably not fun" in spite of all the rave reviews it received from the, what seemed like, cult fan base. "

You should listen to that voice.

Though I hope they bring back the cartoony style from before.

I hope you're right Nucas, but it seems like if you were playing out that scene and most of the work was automatically done for you, the experience wouldn't nearly be as good as having full control
