3DRealms never really existed. It was Brousard's and Miller's fantasy.
The truth is, they rode the coat-tails of id software who made Wolf3d. Then they got lucky and hired a good programmer, a 16 year old kid and he programmed Duke Nukem 3D.
id left. The kid left for college. That was the end of 3DRealms, really before it ever started.
They never had the talent or the leadership to produce a real game. No DNF, No Prey, No Max Payne, nothing.
Just 2 dreamers and a big bank account that dried up.
For over 10 years I've been making fun of this vaporware saying it would never see the light of day. It's a shame for all the people that worked on the project over the decades, but it's like being a worker for GM. If you couldn't see the demise of your company coming, what were you doing?
Thankfully, I bet most of the people who worked on DNF used it to get their feet wet in the industry and moved on to better and released projects.
Just think of how many stripper models and skins you can make in 13 years? Wow.
