What do you really know about the game? You have read a few negative reviews (negative being a false idea really, as the pointless numbers at the end of these reviews are still high), but there are also positive reviews. You have listened to some user comments, but ignore positive user comments. In the main Riddick comment thread on my home forum everyone loves the new game.

I just wonder why you think a few arbitrary numbers on a few select sites means something.

I laugh everytime someone takes a review as gospel and doesn't think for themself. Here you go, Game Informer gave it a 9.5 and game of the month, does that mean you like it now?

Riddick: Dark Athena is the best game I have played this year so far, with Mirror's Edge in close second. Does that mean Dragon Age or Assassin's Creed 2 won't pass it? Of course not, they surely will.

I think Starbreeze has gone on record stating that Dark Athena isn't Riddick 2.

I do have to question comments about the "aged" gameplay though. What exactly does that mean? That it doesn't have regenerating health or a third-person cover system? If that's considered "aged," the older the better.

Which is routinely rated as being worse than the original, main game which is also commented on as being a bit aged.

I want great stuff. I want better stuff. Not an equal amount of something worse...

I played and completed the original more than once. Is it worth $50-$60 for a slight graphical update of the game? No, it isn't. Is it worth $50-$60 for something that is almost as long, but not as good? No, it isn't. All based around a franchise that is in despair? I will concede the multiplayer, but I very minimally play multiplayer components of games and, taken on its own, it is not setting any high standards.

Hey, you like tons of average all smooshed into a box, more power to you. But with the range of games I own, new games I can purchase, the range of discounted/casual games, and my familiarity with the first game, this game is far, far overpriced in my opinion. That aside, I would have preferred a full sequel that was designed as such from top to bottom and which was at least equal to, if not significantly better, than the previous game.

And reviews have been less than impressed with it...BB 1.5 I believe is the general consensus...

Yeah, I just do not get the price point. I realize the developer has been tossing this around for the last century, but do not jack up the price drastically just to help offset that.

It is even more frustrating since the success of this game could lead to further, all-new, current games or even the lolza movie series. Maybe it will do okay in the long run, but it sure does not look like it. Heck, I am somebody that really like the first game and actually wants this.....for a fair price. Go up on Steam as a weekend sale or hit up GoGamer for a discount and I will gladly buy your game.

Why would this game be less than full price? You all seem to want that, but it doesn't make any sense.

It's a full sequel PLUS a remake of the original. It's over 20 hours of singleplayer gameplay. Why would it be cheaper than a game like Half-Life 2 or FEAR?

I guess Starbreeze shot themselves in the foot by adding the remake into it... makes people think they're getting an old product or something? It's a shame, because game remakes are something I wish happened MUCH more frequently.

Deus Ex or Morrowind with new Crysis-level graphics? OMG, YES PLEASE.

It's a shame, but "Atari" really shot themselves in the foot on this one...had they made it $29.99 with minimal DRM (cd key, Steam, etc), I think it would have been a huge hit...

I thought of a good analogy for this game and it's DRM while I was in the shower.

The game is like buying a hammer (the game), but you can only use it on 3 nails (the DRM), sure you can hit each individual nail as many times as you want to get the job done but if you decide to change your piece of wood (your hardware) in the middle of it that counts as using another nail and when your out of nails your hammer is useless...who would want to buy a hammer like that?

£17.99 from Amazon UK. $27. I guess that eases the sting of the fascist activation limits.

I won't even consider buying this until the price is patched.

I'm glad I passed on this game, I am a huge fan of Butcher Bay but this game didn't get good reviews. The Dark Athena campaign pretty much sucks(according to my friend). It's just a shooter and the graphics aren't much better than the original.

Dark Athena is pretty much all stealth and melee until the second half... it also looks much better than the original game, and has a very cool and unique art design that fits the narrative very well. The only thing it really lacks compared to Butcher Bay is the "walking around talking to people" stages... while it has a little of that, it's much more limited.

Still, I found Dark Athena pretty awesome, and as a matter of fact it's probably my lead candidate for game of the year at this time. Butcher Bay was nice to run through again too, and is still an amazing game.

The Athena campaign is actually as long as most single player games are these days. What drags it down IMO, is that the "re-mastered" Butcher Bay campaign isn't all that re-mastered. The lighting and such are definitely improved but I still feel like I'm playing a four year old game. It actually sort of feels like they re-used some assets from BB to make Dark Athena and I was rather hoping for the opposite. To top this off, the performance, while still perfectly fine on a modest computer, doesn't seem as good as it should be considering the very average graphics. I'm getting framerates in the mid 40's but from how it looks it seems I ought to easily be getting 60+ fps.

That said, I rarely feel as though I get my $50 worth from most single player games.

All told though, it's a solid game. Anyone who is on the fence is probably better off waiting until the price comes down. I'm happy with it though. It's still as fun as the original and that's not half bad.

Does this patch makes this game worthy the pricetag? I doubt it.

It's also $50 which is ridiculous considering most of what you're buying is an older game that was modded to run on newer hardware...

This is a $30 game in my book...without the DRM. This game falls into the same territory so many others do that would be interesting to fork over the dollars and try but in the likely event I finish it and want to move on I need to be able to sell it and recover some of my dollars. There are some games I can purchase not caring about resale but most are a big question mark and it's already a risk to try it, but having no way to resell it thanx to a three install limit is just crazy. I got better things to spend $50 on.
