Ships Ahoy - Death Track: Resurrection

Aspyr Media announces Death Track: Resurrection is now available in North American stores and for digital distribution via GameAgent. Two demos for the game were released last year if you are looking for a test drive of this vehicular combat game, one in June and the other in September. Here's the announcement:
Austin, Texas- March 31, 2009 - Aspyr Media, under license from leading Eastern and Central European publisher 1C Company, announced today that Death Track: Ressurrectionfor PC is now available at North American retail outlets and via digital download at www.gameagent.com. Death Track: Ressurrection introduces high speed vehicular chaos to North American gamers without the use of DRM software. The first five titles published by Aspyr under license from 1C in North America - Men of War, Death Track: Resurrection, Cryostasis, Necrovision, and 4X4 Hummer - are all DRM-free.

Death Track: Resurrection travels players to a not-too-distant future in which the world has been plunged into chaos. Traditional sports have been replaced by the far more aggressive, violent and thrilling type of entertainment the public demands. The main event of the year, Survival Racing, is a world tournament that takes place in the largest cities across the globe. Powerful vehicles and spectacular road battles are performed by world-renown and feared drivers. Players strap in as a rookie driver aiming at the top prize.

Death Track: Resurrection is available for PC for the suggested retail price of $19.99 and is rated 'T' for Teen by the ESRB. For more on the game, please visit www.death-track.com.

I wouldn't say that. With realistic physics and dynamic destruction, a high-tech Carmageddon would be awesome.

I won't argue against an all out budget. I think one reason we haven't seen any serious clones or a sequel is the risk factor. This is true for almost any game that doesn't have a recently established franchise or desirable license. Carmageddon's notorious past and bad press would make any of the financial stakeholders that much more nervous. I just think a lower budget would encourage more risk taking by smaller and nimbler devs.

As for car upgrades, I don't think that would matter to me. Part of the fun of Carma was collecting/upgrading to different cars. Either way you're trying to end up with the perfect combo of speed, weight, and dexterity.

Personally I would actually be more worried about the devs capturing the humor, open level design that encouraged you to explore, and over the top and sometimes hysterical/nonsensical powerups (It must include a Pedestrian Electro Bastard Ray or ).

Hah, this is a nice teaser for Clutch. You can find some gameplay videos on Youtube but I thought this video was particularly well done:

Yeah I keep expecting another Carmageddon or a game just like it. Carmageddon is never really given any props since it was before Grand Theft Auto 3 and was 3-d, kill pedestrians and pretty much drive anywhere you wanted, physics, showed damage to cars..etc... was badass. Carmageddon 2 is the best! not to mention it had an Iron Maiden soundtrack!!
part 4 was in the making but cancelled?

Anyways I was hoping Death Track was going to be like a mixture between Interstate '82 and Carmegeddon 2 or 3. Alas it doesn't look that way, how hard can it be?

Graphics and AI don't even have to be closed to cutting edge. Keep it simple and low budget.

I wouldn't say that. With realistic physics and dynamic destruction, a high-tech Carmageddon would be awesome. For example, a spike could pierce through an opponent's door or windshield and impale him. Blades and saws would cut realistically. You could plow into another vehicle and smash him through a concrete wall. You could hit a pedestrian, send him flying into another vehicle and then get his mangled corpse stuck in the guy's windshield.

Customizing your vehicle could be equally cool. It would be like Spore in that you'd place various spikes, blades, hooks, saws, etc, on any part of your vehicle. However, unlike the shallow implementation seen in Spore, the angle, placement, size and weight would actually matter and affect your vehicle's performance. Crafting the perfect killing machine would be a game in itself.

That said, Clutch looks pretty sweet. I'm not too interested in Death Track Resurrection since it focuses on racing more of vehicular combat.

Clutch is pretty close. Just it went the route of Carmageddon 3 (?) and used zombies instead of just pedestrians.

This may be exactly what I'm looking for. I'm cool with zombies and willing to let no MP support(?) slide.

Thanks for the tip.

Awesome. Perhaps the likes of GOG are starting to influence other companies.

There's no demo, as far as I know. If you want more info about it though your best bet is to search for it's Russian title, "Armageddon Riders". Which - due to the number of videos for it - I'm guessing has either been leaked or released in Russia already.

That Clutch game looks pretty cool. Do you know if there is a demo available or anything like that? I've never heard of that game before.

For some reason eastern european devs have the imaginations of a hyper active 10 yr old. This game is perfect example.

and its fun..... Mad

Is there multiplayer in this game? The website is clear as mud...and of course the forum is zero help in answering that question.

So, has anyone played this?

Yes.

Is any of that in the game?

You can upgrade your car, you race on fixed tracks, you can destroy special buildings for a bonus and you cannot win. Well, to be precise, i cannot win. Call me stupid or lacking the appropriate skill, but i cannot win one single effing race. And, funny enough, choosing the hardest difficulty makes the game a little bit more winnable. You know, instead of being the last or second last, now i finish races as sixth or sometimes even fifth. Yay!

Sorry, but this does not work for me. I want to play games for fun and not for work

Has anyone actually played this? I LOVED the original death track. There was almost no point to the tracks (and you couldn't stray off of them), but lots of weapons and upgrades and cars. I loved the terminator which was a bomb on a rocket powered skateboard, you'd launch it up say the left hand of the track, and stay on the right side, and it would go around and around until it blew someone up (including yourself if you forgot and went on the left side when it was near you). Then there was the ramming spikes and guns etc.
Most of the time I won by killing all the rest of the cars, even if they went by me, sometimes I'd let them lap me so I could pound them into dust and become the winner

So, has anyone played this? Is any of that in the game?

Much like everything my friend, your comment makes TOO much sense and would work. Humans don't like things that work and make sense. Use government as an example and now you will know why the world is such a fucked up mad house.

A game called "Death Track" with a Teen rating?

I just don't understand why a Carmageddon clone hasn't shown up yet. Who cares if it's rated 'M'? The controversy over pedestrians is dead too with GTA's success.

The ingredients are so simple:

Cars
Physics
Pedestrians
Powerups
Multiplayer

Graphics and AI don't even have to be closed to cutting edge. Keep it simple and low budget. Save the the improvements for the sequel. With today's distribution channels it seems like a profit would be assured.

If I had the money, I'd bankroll this myself.
