CoD: Modern Warfare 2 in November

Modernwarfare2.com now offers a new "security teaser" trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, offering sounds and imagery from Infinity Ward's modern combat sequel. The clip ends saying "Modern Warfare 2 - www.modernwarfare2.com - 11.10.09" (with no "Call of Duty" in there) which means the game's release date is probably November 10 of this year, though since sometimes the month can be second in a dd-mm-yy notation, October 11 should probably not be ruled out either. Update: A subsequent press release from Activision confirms November 10 as the proper date.

The new one will be the same game as CoD4 with new maps, plain and simple.
It'll sell millions and the fanboys will praise it to no end.

Whatever the case it still doesn't feel like a PC game to me anymore just a glorified port.

Cool. Though it was too easy and I'm not a huge fan of the infinitely spawning enemies until you reach a trigger somewhere, I thoroughly enjoyed the first Modern Warfare.

Will definitely get the second.

You completely summed up everything I wanted to say about CoD4 multiplayer. The only servers I found remotely fun were the "no running" servers where they would also disable UAV's and helicopters and kick people for blind airstrikes; same for CoD:WaW.

I enjoy the CoD single player games, but they are too linear and too scripted with respawning AI 9as mentioned below) and simply could be so much better.

I couldn't care less about multiplayer, which is why I haven't dropped $50 for a game with a three-hour single-player campaign.

Which seems really odd...unless you're a... Because who in the hell would spend any time playing the single player side of this game and skip the MP side of this game?

You do realize, that not everyone likes the same things as you do?

Personally I don't like the MP of CoD series, CoD4 included. Much of it is designed really well, but for the most part it's a spam fest because the maps are far too small and some of the design caters to campers. Some maps you can see the exit of the opposing spawn from your own spawn...that's shitty ass design. It allows the camping kiddies to get an MG, go prone and take pot shots across the map, killing people, sending helicopters, etc...over and over, without ever being touched.

I enjoy the CoD single player games, but they are too linear and too scripted with respawning AI 9as mentioned below) and simply could be so much better. But for $20 to $30 I don't mind picking them up and playing through once or twice as they are still high production value. I care little for the MP, so full price is a waste.

Best thing to come out of the CoD series was the Nazi Zombies in World At War. It's the only reason WaW is still installed.

Comparing this game with counterstrike or TF2 or DoD

Well it does because some of us played games prior to 2005.

I think one cannot underestimate it's appeal to gun crazy southerners and their warped world view. Which ties in with the console market nicely enough. (Not that I do not love my disc scratching 360 and a certain FPS of ill repute, but at least it has well integrated vehicles, 4p co-op, level editing, recording and networkable split screen for cheap ass drunken lan goodness!)

I did enjoy the single player campaign due to some awesome scripted "moments" but game play wise COD4 was as old as, well, COD1. Which felt dated in 2003 apart from the series strengths of scripting and movie-accurate depictions of war. I hear Britney Spears can still sell records as well these days...

It's a decent game but I just don't get why people latched on to it so.

I get the impression a lot of people played the single player side of this game and didn't play the MP side of the game...

Which seems really odd...unless you're a... Because who in the hell would spend any time playing the single player side of this game and skip the MP side of this game? The MP side of this game is THE GAME. The SP side is just a couple hour shooter story. MP side of this game is the real game.

As far as why this is so popular on the consoles...it's the best FPS to ever come to consoles. Comparing this game with counterstrike or TF2 or DoD doesn't compute as most of the CoD fans haven't played those games. So why wouldn't they eat this shit up?

This was a console game and the success of this game has moved many other games to build in this ranking system into their games with upgrades and silly visual changes for players to earn. (See Dawn of War 2) And oddly enough DoW2 follows this formula even closer with a SP game that isn't that interesting but a MP game that could be great if it was balanced.

It's easily the best defense to piracy to make an online component of your game that people want to own for a long time...

So yeah, it's a little odd how many comments there are about the single player side of the game...

Weird...

I played the demo and it was just as I expected, the AI doesn't do anything till you hit the next trigger point *Yawn* I was pinned down behind a wall or something shooting into the building, and the enemys kept spawning until I moved forward and triggered them to stop, LAME.
Exactly. You can't open doors until you trigger scripted events and the game mechanics are pretty obvious, much more than other games of the time. It felt like a backwards step to me.

Overrated? Maybe the single player but the multiplayer is pretty awesome.
The multiplayer is quite enjoyable but it's more like Quake than Counter-Strike and doesn't really play like a military shooter. It doesn't feel very tactical. I don't think it works as well as Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Day Of Defeat or Unreal Tournament 3.

It's a decent game but I just don't get why people latched on to it so.

COD4 MP is CS with perks and is painfully overrated.
Agreed, except the maps are sometimes even smaller and squarer which, when considering the engine used by CS, is unacceptable. Oh, and spray n pray is many times more effective than in CS.

I've already played enough CS over the years to be completely bored by it. Putting new graphics on it doesn't make it better, sorry. A conquest mode and larger maps this time thanks. Maybe some humvees too.

I don't get what the big deal was about this? Its just as linear as anything thats come before it and the graphics, whilst OK weren't anything new to me either, so whats the deal? I played the demo and it was just as I expected, the AI doesn't do anything till you hit the next trigger point *Yawn* I was pinned down behind a wall or something shooting into the building, and the enemys kept spawning until I moved forward and triggered them to stop, LAME. If thats the rest of the game then no thanks.

That's my gripe too. That's why I prefer Crysis.

I would be perfectly happy for them to leave out the single player side the game completely and expand on the multiplayer.

Ditto. I still want more maps for the first one. That game is fucking awesome.

Fuck single player. I can play with myself anytime I want, gimme all the MP goodness you can fit on that disc. I will tear that shit up.

The single player in Cod 4 was very nicely done but I'm not a big fan of heavily scripted games, I played through it once and can't really remember a lot about it but I still play the multiplayer side of the game a lot.

The question is, can they do it again?

Can they actually pull of one of the best military FPS in history a SECOND time?

Another studio used their game engine and formula to make World at War and that was basically a mod. The mechanics of the game were nearly identical with changes to the weapons and maps.

So if another studio can take their game, change a few sound effects, upgrades, ranks, etc and make a best seller....yeah I think the original studio can release another hit.

COD4 MP is CS with perks and is painfully overrated. That said, it is a well made and smooth playing FPS MP experience and happens to be the MP FPS of the moment. Waiting to be replaced by the next fanboy shrine.

I prefered the SP, well worth the $50. It does a great job of simulating war MOVIES.

CoD4 is one of the best multiplayer shooters out there.

It might not be one of the most realistic, but its FUN. The kind of fun where you completely immerse yourself in the game, and think about it when youre not playing.

The singleplayer is well, blah. I didnt even finish the damn short campaign. But I dont regret the 50$ i paid for the game for one second.
I have a nifty blue line!

I still haven't played it yet. I don't play a much multiplayer anymore and have a difficult time justifying $50 for 8 hours of game. Don't get me wrong though, I still want to play it, just not for $50. I have every PC CoD game except 4, even WaW(came w/video card). Just disappointed with the price.
