Crysis Wars Patch & Editor Friday

MyCrysis outlines plans for a new patch for Crysis Wars on Friday, updating the multiplayer mode included with Crysis Warhead to version 1.4, including fixes "that should really improve stability and enhance performance," as well as modification support (thanks Gamer's Hell). Mod support on its own is only so useful, so they are also releasing their editor program at that time, predicting the release for precisely 19:00 CET on Friday, and they say full patch notes for the editor will be released within the next 24 hours. Here's perhaps the most interesting item in the patch notes: "All graphic settings are now available on DX9 machines." Update: A note from Crytek's Official Modding Portal mentioned in our forums helps understand the editor/SDK situation:
In order to keep the community focused on just one modding area based upon the same engine version, we decided to make the AI in Crysis Wars available again to allow singleplayer levels to work and concentrate on supporting this game with editor and SDK. Together with most of the assets from Warhead which are included in Patch 1.4 we are confident that the community will benefit the most out of it by keeping singleplayer and multiplayer modding and level creation to one game.

Crysis Wars can be installed as much as you want without worry of DRM activation limits, so even if you've burned through your activations for whatever reason you can install the Crysis Wars disc to play custom single player maps and mods, along with multiplayer ones too.

It would be pretty hard to make Warhead unusable now that there is a revoke tool.

When you buy Crysis Warhead you get two DVDs in the box. One has Crysis Warhead (single-player) and the other Crysis Wars (multi-player). Warhead was developed by Crytek Budapest and Wars by Crytek Frankfurt. They are different games independent from each other and are also patched independently.

So, previously the multiplayer portion of Crysis Warhead called Crysis Wars is getting patched to allow single player mod/map functionality. You won't need to have the "Warhead" single player portion installed if you want to create single player maps as they're "Turning on AI" functions in Crysis Wars.

This is a good thing, Crysis Wars can be installed as much as you want without worry of DRM activation limits, so even if you've burned through your activations for whatever reason you can install the Crysis Wars disc to play custom single player maps and mods, along with multiplayer ones too.

It might have been slow coming but Crytek still outshines many other game companies with their support for the community.

Doesn't Crysis Wars runs off of Crysis Warhead though?

Crysis Wars is the online component of Crysis and Crysis Warhead. It's not unique to Crysis Warhead. If you own crysis you are playing crysis wars online. If you own Crysis Warhead you are playing the same crysis wars online.

And it's nothing more than MP modes like you'd find in other games, they just wanted to give it an identity. There were rumors that they might be treating the online game like a separate game altogether and sell it separately but this has not happened yet.

But if Crysis Wars show'd up on Steam for $4.99 I would probably drop the money to own that. (despite having very little interest in playing it) So get on that EA and Crytek.

They come on separate discs at retail and are listed as different games on Steam, so they're not necessarily linked. It's possible that it will only update Crysis Wars.

This 1.4 patch is for Wars, not Warhead. Please fix the headline and the story. Thanks.

I'm guessing Crytek thinks this looks like good support but imo, it makes them look like they are unable to prioritize what is actually important to fix and what makes a good looking patch list (marketing). Or maybe they don't have the staffing to really fix Crysis Wars to make it popular online, because it isn't. True though that the game performance hinders online play, which pretty much requires 60fps and this game can't do that right now without mucho deniro. But the real problems with online play are not so much performance as they are with preventing/minimizing cheating.

that is a nice improvement though

Just wait, it's taken 6 months for them to release the editor for it? Shocking. And I have serious doubts that the performance enhancements will amount to much, especially when Crysis Warhead was meant to perform a lot better than Crysis.
