Guild Wars Free Trial

The Guild Wars Website now offers a free trial of Guild Wars, offering the chance to sample ArenaNet's online RPG without submitting a credit card anything beyond creating a free ArenaNet account. The trial is presented in very simple form, with no indications of what limitations are involved. Thanks Tadej.

I disagree Prez! A game that bases its world on hubs and instances without a real world environment(persistent world) to back them up fail!I do believe GW2 will do much better than GW1 for this very same reason;0

trial limitations are most likely the usual
-max 10hours or 10days (whichever expires first)
-no trading or dropping stuff on the ground (prevention against goldsellers)

The client itself is pretty small (<1mb), but once you log in it'll start downloading the basic stuff (few hundred mb). After that the client downloads as needed. If you want everything installed and uncompressed, change the shortcut of the game to "gw.exe -image" and run it once (>3.5gb atm, this downloads stuff you'll never see). To play remove the "-image".

Then completely disregard everything you saw in GW, as MMOs aren't really anything like it.

I wouldn't say it isn't anything like an MMO, but because of the heavy reliance in instancing and hubs, it is indeed very different from your standard MMO. In many ways, its differences are major improvements over MMO's, which I find to be universally terrible.

All this hate is not necessary.

GW is a cool game and now you have a chance to try it out.

That's all this is about.

I love the uppity cunts that act like WoW is the only MMORPG.

I like how uppity people get their panties in a wad and then assume many incorrect things. Rolleyes

12m people can't be wrong...or can they? Maybe...it runs deeper, did someone hurt the all seeing epeen?

Actually - how many people voted for Obama?

I digress.

How many people purchased The Sims Expansions?

I digress.

How many people purchased Spore that had no idea what it was - just Sims 3.1?

I digress.

Sheeple will always fall over the edge in herds.
WoW is no diff.

Well, ok, GW's has the same common components sans the one important thing...the massively online persistent world, you know, which is why they call themselves a CORPG and not an MMORPG

Then completely disregard everything you saw in GW, as MMOs aren't really anything like it.

Toons, alts, classes, skills, levels, equipment, quests, instances, grouping, soloing, farming, selling, guilds.

Nothing in common at all.

Only thing missing really is crafting.

I really like GW, but my mates couldn't accept the "floaty" nature of the game's movement and the lack of a z-dimension (jumping), so we ended up going with lotro (good also).

Kosumo, all you have to leech is the client, which rocks in at around 100KB.

http://www.guildwars.com/support/downloadclient/

It will then download game content in the background, and as you enter new areas, which can sometimes be slow but is very convenient.

Using this method I reinstalled GW earlier this week after over a year of inactivity, without using any of my original game discs (hell if I know where they are anymore). Just had to remember my account email and password.

Guild Wars has always been very generous and flexible using this method. Still fun after all these years, and plenty of people still playing. Can't ask for much more for a one time $50 payment that I made in 2005.

I'd recommend that anyone who has been intrigued by MMO's but refuses to pay a monthly fee at least give this a try.

Guess they figured they needed some good publicity attached to the Guild Wars name after the disappointing news this week.

I'd recommend that anyone who has been intrigued by MMO's but refuses to pay a monthly fee at least give this a try.
