Microsoft confirms plans to open retail stores has word that Microsoft is
looking to take part of its massive retail presence in-house with the creation
of Microsoft retail stores, presumably in the vein of Apple's successful line of
stores. That's not 100% clear yet, though, as word is: "Microsoft has not yet
announced any plans for particular locations, or if the stores will directly
sell computers or provide a place for customers to demo the software."
To be fair (I know it's cool to bash big bad evil MS, but bear with me), several of the source products you mention are derivative products themselves. For example, MacOSX came from Unix/Linux, and Sun Javascript had many influences.
True, but at least all those companies listed in some way *improved* on what they took before they sold their version.
