Nobody ever said VHS quality is all you'll ever need.

So you have spoken to everyone 12 years ago about their initial reactions to DVD over VHS? I had to show side by side comparisons to people, family members, etc so they would understand the difference. I did the same thing with Blu-Ray and DVD...while many are waiting for the prices to come down more, they aren't blind and understand the differences.

Yes, you can argue the higher quality, but it's not apparent on anything less than a 40" TV (insert Dagok Sony rant here.)

Hmm, pretty sure I distinctly referred to people that has a half decent home theatre, oh that's right I did...so I dont see what you are trying to discredit here. If you are on a CRT or projection TV, Blu-Ray will not help you. But if you have a decent sized 720, preferably 1080 LCD/Plasma, with surround sound, then you will benefit from superior picture and sound. As I've already said, if this is not for you, then fine. But to say there is no noticeable difference (on the proper hardware) is laughable.

It's a much harder sell.

Seriously, can nobody fucking read? Blu-Ray is doing better at this point than DVD was at the same point in it's lifespan. Someone posted links to figures a month or more ago...the proof is out there.

They have no clue what BluRay is. They likely never will. I bought them a new TV and an upscaling DVD player. This way, when they walk into the video store, they don't rent a disc that they can't play.

Nothing has changed from the VHS to DVD format transition. It's still a transition that will take years, and not everyone will convert, nor should they have to. DVD and Blu-Ray can and will co-exist for a long time, nobody is saying Blu-Ray will take over anytime soon. It's only this year that the last of the VHS distributors is liquidating its remaining stock and shutting it down.

So I'm not sure what you are arguing about...you agree it has better picture on the appropriate hardware (which is what I was arguing with the other guy), and you agree not everyone needs to upgrade (I already said this too).
