Mirror's Edge on Steam

Steam is now offering digital distribution of Mirror's Edge, if you're looking for a convenient way to leap into DICE's parkour-themed action game that's now available for Windows. Thanks nin.

I just finished the game on PC. It's a solid game but the constant enemy confrontations get annoying. It wouldn't be so bad if the combat flowed better but the current implementation completely kills the pacing of the game. They should have made the dropkick knock enemies down, not just back. That way, you could could momentarily incapacitate them without needing to get into a fistfight. The slide could have also been used to slide through enemies' legs or something. I still managed to get through most of the game without fighting but there were a couple of parts where I had no choice.

The levels are a bit formulaic too. You have a chase scene, then a "puzzle" scene, then a chase scene, puzzle scene, rinse and repeat. The chase scenes are somewhat problematic if you aren't using runner vision, as it isn't always clear where you need to go. I often found myself running around in circles while getting shot at. Finally, none of the levels are particularly memorable. They are all sterile and minimalistic, which works with the story but just doesn't make for interesting scenery. This is definitely no Tomb Raider in that respect.

Oh yeah, the story sucks and is pretty predictable. It also has an unsatisfying ending.

I still think the series, much like Assassin's Creed, has tons of potential. If they just work on the combat, story and variety, a sequel would be great.

Is this game really worth the money? It doesn't seem like there is much replay value.

No. It's an interesting game, and has gorgeous graphics. But the gameplay isn't that impressive. It would have been great to see them spend another 6 months on this game, it feels unfinished in every way.

It's worth playing, but I'd suggest sticking with either renting it or paying $30 or less if you want to buy it. After you finish the singleplayer game (which is barely more than a set of missions strung together) you can replay each level and try and beat your best times but there isn't much reason to bother doing that.

A race mode where you could play against other people and race from point a to b would have been nice, maybe fun, maybe not, but that would be something...

I wish EA would release their games on Steam here in the UK. It's disgusting that they've taken this long, if indeed they are even going to be released here.

Odd, I didn't have that problem. The tutorials all referenced my mouse and keyboard.

What I find incredibly shitty and lazy is that when you do the training levels, everything is indicated with:
"Press LT or RT" (left trigger or right trigger)
"Press X to jump"
"Press Y to whatever".

I don't even have a Xbox360 controller connected and I want to use the keyboard!
How much work is it to show the actual keys you need to press in stead of a controller I don't have!
Bah!

Playing through the first few chapters, I don't really see why everybody thinks the game is frustrating. It's been pretty easy thus far, though that could change drastically later in the game.
