UGO Buys 1Up; EGM Will Close

Gamasutra has word that UGO has purchased Ziff Davis' 1Up division, a move that has been rumored for a while now, and true to other rumors, print magazine EGM is not part of the deal, and is discontinued following the January, 2009 issue. They also have word that some 30 layoffs immediately followed the deal, and the article offers proud quotes from UGO high command, as well as a copy of an internal Ziff Davis email announcing the move and outlining plans for the future. For the record, UGO places the advertising on this website.

Too bad that the "community" didn't pay the bills. You cannot continue to pay employees - even if they are stellar - if the money ain't coming in. You must stay lean and focused in business to succeed - I don't know why people get so upset - business is business.

...because those "people" are fucking retards who have no business acumen? They're probably pirates too, since only they would find any sense in continuing a losing proposition and that something thats not profitable can't expect to remain in business.

Game developers are just human beings who happen to make games for a living. If you want to hold us up to higher standards of conduct, then go ahead
...but don't be surprised if we don't uphold them
