There's a
Battlefield interview on Total Gaming Network talking with DICE about
upcoming support plans for the Battlefield series. They discuss efforts at
competing cheats, plans for a version 1.51 patch for BF 2142 to include security
measures from the latest Battlefield 2 patch, and plans for a new unnamed map
for Battlefield 2 for which they have some screenshots.

Sorry I don't give a shit if your in the top 5 pilots in 2142. The best part of 2142 is the infantry combat and kits. Take that with BF2's vehicular game and make BF3 dammit!

I no longer trust that site.
Half Life used to have 70,000 players. As recently as 6 months ago. Now it hovers around 15,000. Where'd they go? HL2 used to have about 20,000 around the same time. Now it's 8,000.
Makes no sense to me. No game seems to have absorbed those players. And Left 4 Dead must have more than 600 people playing.

Confused as to why they are still messing with BF2
They need to save face with the fans before they announce BF3.
Loving the AIX mod as well. Check it out here to play BF2 the way it should have been from the start. The enhanced bot AI is amazing.

BF2 is still a wildly popular, somewhat uniquely styled.
You have infantry of all types, all manners of vehicles and aircraft. You can be a solider or a commander, you can play different types of games and you can get achievements.
Yes there are bugs, yes there are cheaters, but every game has cheaters and the bugs..there's precious little a non programmer can do about those.

Confused as to why they are still messing with BF2 - they abandoned it a long time ago when everyone wanted patches and updates - now they are going back to a dead game.......makes no sense at all.
Servers still have cheaters galore - they can't even stop the most simple of stupidity.

BF2142 pwns all else. I am in the top 30 pilots in the world on the leader boards.
I would consider picking up BF2 since it's so cheap now, but I am wary about this game being abandoned and left to the cheaters.
Obviously CoD4 is very different than Bf2. But I still prefer CoD4, mainly becaue of its fast pace and high skill ceiling.
Granted BF2 is a very very good game, but its like apples and oranges. These two games are very different.
I dont play singleplayer shooters. So Im talking pure multi here.
So please dont bash CoD4 just because it has small levels, and has no vehicular combat. This game was designed that way on purpose.

Ive played Bf2 and ive played CoD4 and I prefer CoD4.

They aren't even in the same league, despite what many people may think. I know you don't think that. They are militaristic shooters, but that's where the similarities end. I say this because I think a lot of people probably pick up COD4 thinking that because its a newer game/engine that it should be a better game. COD4 has a better single player game, but for online play, BF2 is so very much more with the huge maps, vehicles, etc. Fun is subjective though and I can understand why some people would rather play COD4. Not me!

I still play BF2 every now and then, it's such a great game and much better than the fucking horseshit pumped out today. Especially CoD4, fuck Call of Duty 4, how can anyone find that game entertaining?
Totally agree with you. Not like agreeing fixed anything in the world though. lol. If its any comfort, look at gamespy's stats page. BF2 is the 3rd most popular FPS listed and COD4 has dropped a lot since its heights last year, below BF2.

I notice a lot of activity in the room, putting to rest my fears that Battlefield Heroes project might have been dropped by EA after the recently announced cut backs.
Hopefully they were actually busy deleting the code for this horrible excuse of a Battlefield game.
