Phantom Entertainment
Launches Highly Anticipated Game Store; Company Secures Funding for Innovative
Lapboard Production announces that Phantom Entertainment has launched a
digital distribution platform called
Phantom Games, an actual business from this start-up that at one time had
ambitious console plans that
later evolved into
plans for "a whole new method of distributing games that benefits consumers,
publishers and retailers, and makes the dream of being able to purchase any
game, at any time, from the comfort of the family room a reality." We're not
sure any of this qualifies as "new," but here's a bit more on how the store
works: "It uses a highly advanced content licensing management system to track
all games purchased, so once a game is paid for and downloaded, the user owns
the license forever and can return to re-download the game in the future without
incurring additional cost." They also announce funding for their laptop dealies,
so they won't have to live up to the "Phantom" name, after all, as they will go
on sale in January.
