Dante's Inferno Announcement & Movie

This press release officially announces the Dante's Inferno game, though this project based on the first cantica in Dante's Divine Comedy was revealed a couple of months ago and film rights for the game were optioned shortly after that. A previous indication from the LinkedIn Page of EA's Jonathan Knight was this would be an "original action/adventure franchise for PS3/XBox360 at the EA studio in Redwood Shores," and while the announcement confirms a third-person action/adventure and that Redwood Shores is the studio behind the game, there are no platform details on the preliminary Dante's Inferno Website. The site does offer a teaser trailer, and here's a bit from the announcement: "An abducted soul, a lifetime of sins, a journey to the depths of despair. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that EA Redwood Shores, the studio behind the hit horror game Dead Space™, is now working on another original property -- this one based on the medieval epic poem The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri. The dark fiction gave birth to the Tuscan Italian dialect and is widely considered the work that has defined the western world’s contemporary conception of hell and purgatory. The poem tells the tale of Dante who journeys through the twisted, menacing nine circles of hell in pursuit of his beloved Beatrice. Dante’s tortured and tormented world is an ideal setting for this 3rd person action and adventure of a video game, Dante’s Inferno™."

A shooter based on Dante's works. *sigh* I guess some clown had to do it. Figures it's EA. The entire lesson will be lost.

You might not see a visible sequel number, but if you listen for a second this title screams Hellgate 2.

Wonder if EA's DRM policy will make a cameo appearance. Yes, it probably will, in-game or not...

Judging from the trailer EA doesn't know that much about Dante either. :-|

How exactly do you "option film rights" for a piece of work that was written 700 years ago and is way beyond any copyright or ownership issues? I think someone got ripped off.

Excellent source material, but since it's EA it'll probably end up being a load of Bolgias.

I love seeing EA do anything that doesn't have a number at the end of the title.

While I applaude the initiative to create an interactive adventure game based on the wonderful Divine Comedy, the truth is this game will most probably fail.

The reason? Schoolkids (and grown ups) these days have even less of a clue who Dante was than back in my day.

Im not saying its going to be a crap game, Dead Space was magnificent albeit very simple, im just saying it wont sell. But then again Im probably underestimating the power of EA's hype machine.
I have a nifty blue line!

Oh please let this be good.
I love Dante's Inferno and the Divine Comedy. EA don't mess this up. It could be awesome!
