PC Burnout Paradise Dated, Demo Planned

Criterion Games announce a plans for a February release for Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box, the Windows edition of the open-world racing game named after a head shop. They also announce the release will be supported with a trial version that will allow a test drive of the entire game for a limited period. This allows a logical way to provide a sample of an open world game, while also facilitating online sales, as those who want to purchase the full version can unlock the trial. They also have word on content: "Like both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, this product combines the original Burnout Paradise with all the incredible support content we’ve developed so far! That means our Cagney Pack update, the Bikes Pack and the forthcoming Party Pack are all included." Thanks Ant and Voodoo Extreme.

Never played any previous Burnout games, and just got it Black Friday weekend for my PS3 for $20 shipped. At that price, it was a no brainer. I am having fun so far, even with all the car crashes every 30 seconds.

Its not a terrible game by any stretch but I was surprised how quickly I got annoyed with this version of Burnout, versus the previous ones.

It really isnt that difficult, even when you don't know the city. It's so suttle, most people miss it and I sure did at first...

...top middle of the screen there are street signs. It begins to flash and a very soft blinking sound plays, telling you this would be a good place to turn. If you miss it, it continues to tell you at each subsequent street. It does give you some advance warning.

So, good luck trying to see the turn you need to take and then taking that turn without crashing.
yeah that's why you need to learn the city. It can be very frustrating until then.

But if you lose a race, do other races or challenges to get back to where you were. Defeats the point in being in a open world if you can teleport.

I am a fan of the burnout games but BP was a mixed bag. The open world racing would work if it werent for the fact that you are going at insane high speeds (because its a burnout game). So, good luck trying to see the turn you need to take and then taking that turn without crashing. You cannot drive slowly or you will lose against the AI. And its not fun that you cannot re-start a particular race without driving back to the race start point. Its not the best Burnout game. YMMV

I'm really interested in this but I'm taking a stand to draconian drm so I hope they don't have garbage drm in it. Since however EA owns them, they probably will.

That didn't take long, did it?

(Honestly, was surprised it took until the second post...)

I suppose it depends on how they time limit it - will it be a time-limit per session or a time-limit per computer that once expired the demo is useless. The former is always nice.

Secondly, it sounds like DRM will be handled differently, what with the activation of the demo bypassing the need for installation of a disc copy. Maybe they're going to do it via a Telltale-like account system.

this is a gg on the 360, though it can be a pain until you learn the city sufficiently so I'm not sure the demo can show off what fun this game is.

Sounds better than their old demo, which really didn't show what the game was about. This game requires several hours of play with all the content in place before it gets interesting. It's not until you get to know the city well enough to ignore the GPS it really starts to kick ass.

Oh, and you'd better not mind cheating AI too much. All marked man challenges sucked because of this

Seems like Steam would be the best way here to do a free trial of the entire game - free weekends for TF2 and other games show that the technology's there. I wonder if that'll be a method for this...

Not a fan of the way they made the cars handle in this game, too much arcade for my taste. Makes the NFS series look like a driving simulator.

Exactly. You'll more than likely be forced to hand over your left nut. For which they'll give back to you when you uninstall. However - you can only do so a maximum number of 5 times. By which you will never get your lone testicle back.
However, more than likely their will be a technical hitch on release, resulting in you being completely castrated, with a "thank you for your understanding, we are working on providing you with a new penis as soon as possible" apology.
