Gamer Web Browser

Rogue from GotGame is a new web browser specifically designed to operate properly while playing games. The announcement about the release explains the reasoning here: "The application is optimized to impact the gaming experience as little as possible. Gamers can set the browser’s transparency so the entire game screen is still visible, even if the browser is open. This means that they can, for instance, watch online videos overlaying their game at 50% transparency, while at the same time 'grinding' for experience in Age of Conan." Thanks Ant and TechCrunch.

Wait, wait, wait. You wanna take a segment of the population that’s addicted to MMOs, and cross it with a segment of the population that’s addicted to pr0n?

Yeah, no shit. Why not inject straight fucking heroin into people's minds?!

I don't really play many games where the "action" is as boring as grinding for XP, but for those that do, I can see that having something that can overlay would be a worthwhile distraction.

I'm surprised nobody has thought of this before. Sounds like useful technology.

GotGame Rogue is amazing! it definitely enhances my gaming experience. I can check my emails and watch videos while I'm playing my favorite game!

Is this for real? 1 post, phrased like a marketer. Has to be someone doing it for kicks.

First thing that came to my head was the use of "walkthrough/tutorial" videos... or ghost racing/leveling/adventuring/whatever.

What do you mean, segment?

Is there anyone who doesn't like porn?

Speaking of porn - I wonder if anybody's ever thought about making a plugin for WoW (and other MMOs) that lets you browse for and watch videos (read: Porn) in a resizable in-game window, integrated into the game UI? That would eliminate focus-related problems that come with solutions like this browser.

Heard a rumor this has happened in EVE already using the ingame browser people can pay for access to a third party run site with ingame ISK. But considering the ingame browser is even less capable than most pda browser, and certainly incapable of video in any form it would be limitid to images only.
Rest assured people who would actualy use this service would probably be quite inapt at breeding so the problem seems like it will take care of itself.

I don't play MMOs anymore, but if I did, I could see using such a plugin during the (more) boring parts of the game. Of course, those boring parts were a factor in my decision to stop playing MMOs...

Indeed. And if you don't do that, you pay someone else to actually play the game on your behalf in China.
I just don't get what's so much fun about grindfest MMOs. There was such great potential for online persistent worlds, and they turned them into the most tedious genre ever devised. *sigh*

Pretty sure you won't be using this while playing Left 4 Dead, especially when the horde shows up.

No shit, I was just talking to a semi-jaded WoW player yesterday who told me he runs in a window so he can watch TV while he PLAYS THE GAME. I'm just waiting for the moment when that truly sinks into his thick skull.

Huh... if he's enjoying himself, why do you care? Not EVERYTHING in an MMORPG requires 100% of your attention.

MMORPGs. So fun you have to browse the internet and watch a movie while playing them.
