The Million Witcher March

CD Projekt RED proudly announces The Witcher has sold over one million copies since the release of the RPG one year ago, humorously observing that: "Scientific research has proven that those sales numbers are quite good for a debut game based on a relatively unfamiliar IP from an unknown studio on a 'dead' platform." A new The Witcher- Enhanced Edition One Year Anniversary Movie celebrates the milestone, and looking forward, the announcement quotes CD Projekt cofounder Michal Kicinski saying: "We’re also rather close to breaking our silence about the multi-platform project underway at Metropolis Software, in which we recently acquired a majority stake. Needless to say, we’re very excited about the future and we think gamers will be, too!"

The main RPG aspect of The Witcher were the numerous meaningful choices you had to make that had long-term consequences. The character development options themselves were fairly limited. From what I've played thus far, Fallout 3 is the opposite. Lots of character development options but very few meaningful choices with long-term consequences.

Im probably going to get really badly flamed for saying this, but Im having more fun playing Fallout3 than I ever had with the Witcher, but then again the Witcher always felt like an action-adventure game with rpg elements to me, and Im not a really big fan of adventure games.

I have a feeling I really missed out by skipping over this game..

feel free to flog me accordingly.

Let me just say that it's nice to play a game that is rated M for more than just violence, blood, and filthy language.

What I'm confused about is, didn't they already announce that it had sold over a million copies, before the Enhanced Edition came out?

My first run through is with the EE, I'm completely lost in the plot and my cock is going to fall off from all the shagging.

I like playing the yathzee mini-game, walking around with three prominently displayed swords and using force push Signs on people.

I also like the blurry filter, the earthy dialog and Clint Eastwood Geralt, my avatar.

That The Witcher is a first-time effort from distant lands impresses me to no end. I'm waiting for the x-rated patch to trickle to Stardock, and then I'll buy it again from them. I got the first copy free, bundled.

I'm not sure which version uses TAGES but it is only certain regions I think. I bought the European collector's edition when the game came out and while it does use a disc check, it most definitely does not use TAGES.
I bought the UK version and it has TAGES, though the 1.4 patch (EE) removed the CD-check.

@necrosis: Did you even read my whole post, idiot? I even said it's their premier title as a developer but to someone who "stays on top of gaming every day" the name seriously should have rung more than one bell. They are a very well known publisher and the name has often times come up even on US sites well before The Witcher was even conceived. It doesn't really surprise me though that for someone from the US the horizon ends at New Jersey beach.

Sorry CJ_Parker. I stay on top of gaming every day. I have NEVER heard of this company till now. Number one publisher in Eastern Europe? I live in the US.. o wait that must be "bumfuck" to you.

Kiss my ass you arrogant prick.

Hit me up with some of the games they have made to enlighten me. Wiki only shows The Witcher but I don't trust that pace all that much.

I love The Witcher. I love CD Projekt as long as they continue to make games designed for PC first and not games designed for consoles and then half assed ported to pc. If console games were actually ported to pc in a non half assed manner, it would be good.

In that video they released, you can see scenes from what looks like a first person shooter and a witcher sequel.

Seriously CD Projekt, you came out of nowhere...

Get a clue. They didn't come "out of nowhere" (but maybe you did... Bumfuck, OH, resident by chance? ).
Uh, anyway, CD Projekt has been around since the early 90s and is the no. 1 video game publisher throughout all of Eastern Europe. They self-funded The Witcher out of their own pockets and didn't have any trouble doing so due to their publishing activities. They are a big player in this business and already were before The Witcher was even conceived.
OK, sure, this is their premier title as a developer but saying they "came out of nowhere" would be like saying Atari "came out of nowhere" if Atari would all of a sudden begin to develop games instead of just publishing and distributing them.

Gratz to CDProjekt! It's damn good game, puts them in a class with pre ea Bioware (just unknown how this will turn out) and Obsidian. Certainly one the best we PC gamers have since the loss of BI and Troika.
My biggest grips with tW, CDProjekt tried so hard to make extreme choices sometimes the results were just ridiculous. The third chapter Triss and Shanni choice results were so extreme and unbelievable taking me out of the game world feeling, is a good example.

Oh, it may come as a big surprise to the ea wonks in the banning thread, customers can actually have opinions and stuff at CDProjekt. Wow, what a concept.

Yes, it uses the TAGES method. I'm not sure if the Steam version has it or not though. I tried to get it to run using GameJackal Pro (which for me has a 95% or higher success rate for all protections besides TAGES and StarForce) and TAGES went ahead and removed all good items from any containers in the game, as well as removed main characters and messed with combat such that I couldn't pull my sword out.

Grab it off of Impulse (via Stardock). No DRM whatsoever, the handiness of an online client to download and keep updated, and no need for Impulse to be running to play The Witcher as it's completely seperate.

I think now that they hit the million mark, they need to use EA as a publisher. They'll even more product out the door that way.

Has a disc check on the regular version, that's it as far as I know.

The game wasn't so fun for me after that so I put the damn DVD back in the drive. Oh well, at least it won't mess with my system like StarForce would. It just aggravates because if I forget to take the DVD out of the drive after playing, I can guarantee that my 1.5 year old daughter will (scratchy, scratchy).
