Ghostbusters and Riddick to Atari

Variety reports that the Ghostbusters game and Chronicles of Riddick sequel jettisoned by Activision Blizzard have found a new home with Atari, ending a long period of speculation about the future of the Ghostbusters project in the works at Terminal Reality and Red Fly Studios. The report says Atari has not confirmed the Ghostbusters part, but they've gotten firm word on that from "sources close to the publisher." On the other hand, the Riddick deal has been confirmed, and addition to publishing Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena this spring, Atari has also signed a licensing deal to continue with more Riddick games in the future. The story also catches up on the status of other franchises impacted by the Vivendi Activision merger that gave birth to Activision Blizzard, saying the Scarface and Jason Bourne licenses have reverted back to their owners, 50 Cent: Blood in the Sand was recently picked up by THQ, and Brutal Legend is wandering around like a broke musician in search of a publishing deal or the pick of destiny. This press release has more on the Riddick game, saying it will be released for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3 in spring of 2009, and will be expanded from the originally planned remake of Escape from Butcher Bay:
Previously announced as a remake of hit title The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with added content, Atari can today reveal that The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contains a brand new full-length campaign. This exciting announcement promises a title which will include the original game re-imagined for a whole new audience, an entirely new chapter in the Riddick saga and, for the first time, intense online multiplayer combat, making The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena a must-have experience for any fan of intense action gaming.

I really enjoyed Chronicles of Riddick and Pitch Black.

Yeah, Riddick kicked ass. Awesome goddamnded game! Bring on Athena! And whilst I don't think Ghostbusters will be anything great, I hope I'm wrong and I'll check it out for sure.

CoR was a pretty good game for a port, maybe the best FPS port. My big grip with it since it was so popular on consoles, for the first time I thought they had too much reality and wished they had used money as currency instead of stogies.

It's different for adults when it comes to smoking you have a choice, whether to try to quit or not(it sure the hell (isn't easy to quit, but medicine and support groups are there like your friends)but with kids it's different. We know there is no reason to smoke other than addiction and here in the US we are brainwashed to be addicts from childhood starting with sugar.

I can personally assure that Ghostbusters will be most excellent.
I can confirm this because I've seen the engine demonstrations by Terminal Reality and the engine that they developed for it is absolutely incredible.
The characters are exceptionally detailed, very well animated (from the basic interactions that I DID see) and aside from graphics, the game uses the original actors' voice talents, likenesses (which is graphical, but just means the license is complete) and the game follows the movie with accurate depictions of... the library, which was in the demonstration.

The whiz hot part of it was the physics and severment they demonstrated, not to mention the gameplay involves true to form reign and trap ghostbusting action.

To put it short, I approve.

I'd much rather see a completely new game with a new premise and storyline.

Same here. However, Assault on Dark Athena is going to have a new campaign so that's good enough for me. The original game is the only console shooter I've ever liked.

opps - excuse the junk post - Opera went crazy on me.

Just wanted to say I thought Butcher Bay was rather better than Doom3. The graphical style and quality were very similar - but all the many characters in Butcher Bay had unique and detailed faces and bodies - compared to Doom3 where the same three heads were used for every character - which sucked.

I thought the same thing, anything related to that movie had to be underwhelming, but the game was damn good.
I played it on the PC, and the developer's commentary was interesting and at the time, quite unique. I don't think I'd seen commentary done before that.
90 at Metacritic, if you never played it and you're a FPS fan, pick it up! Its short and sweet

Well, you're obviously clueless if you thought the original Chronicles was "craptastic".

Your loss.

I was refering to the other licences, this isnt obvious from my earlier post. My bad.

Most people would assume Riddick would be a shitty game just because it's based on a failed Vin Diesel movie, man you couldn't be more wrong! I'm actually surprised they are remaking the first game because it was just fine and the graphics were top-notch and still look as good as many games coming out today. It was definately the best graphics game ever releaed on the Xbox and it looked just as nice if not better than games like Doom3 on PC. I'd much rather see a completely new game with a new premise and storyline. Either way I'm buying this game the day it's released, I'm very glad they are putting it on PC or I'd most likely skip it entirely.

I guess ActiBlizz doesnt want its name smeared by craptastic licences. Oh well one good thing that came out of the merger I guess

Escape from Butcher Bay was one of the greatest games made in the past 10 years, big expectations here.

If Blizzard has no part in what Activision does and vice verse as stated, than don't mention Blizzard at all in Activision games and Activision in Blizzard games.

At least give me the chance to go into denial and believe the merge never happened.
