I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I haven't had a single problem with incompatibility or glitches in my 5+ years of owning ATI cards. Like Vista, incompatibilities with ATI cards are grossly exaggerated.
As to value and performance, it depends on what's more important to the user, really. Comparable framerate at a lower cost, but with incompatibility headaches, glitches and artifacts; doesn't sound like a good deal to me.
Is the patch that makes AMD products not suck?
Is the patch that makes AMD products not suck? This driver only affects their graphics cards, which haven't sucked for 5+ years (back when they were ATI). The R300 took the market by storm when it came out, and the R700 (their current flagship) offers performance close to Nvidia's latest offerings at a much better price - it's also the only series to support DX10.1. I don't think there's ever been a better value than the Radeon 4850.
/Done in Nvidia green, of course.
