Jack Thompson versus Disbarment

Former crusading attorney Jack Thompson will not appeal his disbarment (story) in the Supreme Court of Florida, but rather is making a federal case out of his involuntary retirement from the legal profession by taking the matter to a US District Court, reports Kotaku. They have the text of Thompson's emergency motion, which makes a couple of accusations towards The Florida Bar Board of Governors, mentioning their "perversion of the entire lawyer discipline process," and "obstruction of justice." Thanks Dagok.

We've created a generation of vicious (vicious meaning "vice ridden," not just physically cruel) kids who are completely blind to their own viciousness and its consequences for both themselves and society.

Surely you're not suggesting that this is gaming's fault? You make a valid point about the degradation of decency in society, but to me, the type of games we play is more a symptom of that than the cause.

"Violent video games don't make people commit acts of violence! I'll fucking KILL you in a horrible HORRIBLE way for saying that!" lol

Not sure why you're lolling, because that's exactly Thompson's point. We've created a generation of vicious (vicious meaning "vice ridden," not just physically cruel) kids who are completely blind to their own viciousness and its consequences for both themselves and society. Yeah, Thompson focuses on the violence aspect because general morality and character are beyond what's possible to address in the law anymore, but that is his point and you geniuses prove it for him every time you open your mouths.

I image Jacko will be reduced to picketing outside GameStop when GTA V comes out.

Are you kidding, he'll never leave.

The media will continue to feed his habit, perhaps giving him a a position as a commentator or some editorial writer. The media embraces shock/controversy/spin while tip-toeing away from actual news, so Thompson is like a shiny toy for them.

The only difference now is that he's less likely to cause legal problems than before as he will probably still file civil suits and such as an ordinary citizen.

Don't be surprised to see him back with a vengeance in a few months once the public starts forgetting about his disbarrment.

The man has lost his mind. What does he hope to accomplish? He will just end up even more publicly shamed. Although it couldn't happen to a nicer guy...

You do realize that that could be used by the anti-violent video game side as evidence to support their position, right?
I don't care as long as they actually do what I suggested.

After he gets done paying his fine he'll be so broke he'll have to write his protest message on his arms and flail about.
