On WAR's Rough Euro Beta Launch

Mark Jacobs' Blog has thoughts from the Mythic boss about the difficulties launching the open beta testing of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in Europe (story), which is now underway. His initial post is mostly to decry the outcry over troubles with a beta, though this may not be completely cognizant of how beta access was dangled as a benefit of preordering. The post was subsequently updated clarifying that GOA is not without blame, saying that the game's European manager "messed up" and that it "was an ugly day," and clarifying that he does not deny the right of players to be angry. He also comments on statements by GOA's IainC: "I’ll simply say this, I do not agree with what he said, I do not support what he said and his comments were, in my opinion, way out of line." We're not sure what comments he's referencing, there's a Letter from IainC on the Warhammer Forums, but this does not seem at all inflammatory. Moving forward, Videogaming247 has received a statement from GOA saying "These issues will of course be completely fixed for the launch."

Damn Bats, now you make me feel bad for being in the beta even though I'll never play it or the retail version of the game

This fiasco is still ongoing. I've yet to receive an email acknowledging my beta key, yet if you check the news page of the WAR Europe site they try to claim that everything is moving along nicely - "Since we launched our new validation system yesterday, players have been flooding onto the beta servers." It's staggering to think that they actually left it so late before allowing people to activate their accounts & keys - it must either be down to French arrogance or ignorance.

There is currently NO WAY to log into the European site. So I am not sure how you can validate your Key they e-mailed you. What a joke. Go to the site - nothing works, there used to be a "Register" option.....all text was removed. (The left hand side - upside down Axe)

http://www.war-europe.com/

So I am not sure how they can claim it is working.

Someone point out to me where they said to use the "Code" link to verify my code? What a bunch of tools. Let's see how long this takes....

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.

Well I just have to say I'm having a lot of fun in spite of my misgivings about this game.

It's ugly as fuck but, damn if the PVP isn't a ton of fun.

If the pvp is this good for all the lvls I might have to pick this one up.

Rough MMO Open Beta launch even news... Sep 9, 2008, 13:56

Is a rough MMO Open Beta launch even newsworthy nowadays?

I loaded it up, and tried the classes I wanted to play. *Zealot, Shaman, and Sorcerer*. I played a Hunter, Rogue, and Warrior the last few years in WoW, I'm ready to play a caster class again. I've also never played a healer class, so I might just for a change of pace.

I was extremely dissapointed with the feminine look of the male Dark Elf characters. Literally, I thought I was looking at a female, to the point where I was clicking the male symbol several times thinking the game had crashed. I can see why they might want to make a Dark Elf feminine looking, such as the way Blizzard handled the art for the Blood Elves, but to say Mythic went overboard is an understatement.

I will probably end up playing the Shaman, the Zealot was a little "too" focused on Healing for my taste. *I was under the impression that with Warhammer, all classes would have nice offense abilities, but it seemed as if WoW's Priest has more options for damage than Warhammers "primary" healer classes.*

Regardless, hopefully this game is worth playing, I don't want to wait another several years for the next-generation MMOs.

The Euro side is working now? Oh yea.
People still waiting to get their OB beta keys from the EA store. Account creation is down for over 24 hours now.
Validation e-mails taking over 26+ to validate.
It's a living nightmare. Just take a quick look at warhammeralliance and then come back.

Oh..there's nothing free about this so called beta. I payed for it.

Yeah but either way you still lose because you are PLAYING AGE OF CONAN.

It's a lose lose situation.

I'm enjoying the War beta so far. I'm level 6 now and I've figured out how to find quest items/goals on the map which was my only gripe.

I love the PVP (Called RvR in the game) in this game. There are a lot of well designed features in the game that really make you feel like you're in the middle of a lot of other players. There are public quest zones, small area that a set of enemies spawn in and players compete for loot. Once the public quest ends everyone gets a shot at loot through a lottery system that divides the rewards up to different people.

There is also contested zones you can walk straight into and be flagged rvr after 10 seconds. I'm not sure what the purpose of holding these zones is but it's really nice to have pvp and pve all in the same place. No special servers, no special areas, just walk into this town and poof!, PVP!.

The Scenario's are great in my opinion. You can jump into an instanced pvp battle from just about anywhere.

Far as I can tell all the XP you earn in pvp and pve is the same. You can level up doing either one which I'm VERY happy with.

Combat in this game is a big step back from Conan. I have to say that seeing all the death animations and character animations in Conan was much better than this. But the whole experience in War is superior. I wish they'd incorporate some of the conan death animations into this game.

Combat can get a bit repetitive from what I've seen so far. I picked a Marauder (like a barbarian in conan) which is a melee character and chasing people around to fight in PvP with lag and hordes of players around isn't exactly fun... It works ok but there is some room for improvement.

I think I want to re-roll a ranged character. Seems like it's be easier to fight in pvp if you weren't trying to chase your enemy and attack at the same time. Ranged get to just pick a target and shoot fireballs.

Fury had issues with this as well. Ranged combat was much more effective because melee attacks depended on your enemies not moving to be effective. I have an attack that can slow enemies down so I can smash them adn such but it doesn't change the fact that you still have to move in all directions to keep hitting him while he can stand in place hitting me just by pressing a button.

I'm enjoying the game so far. I'm not sure why people are so pissed about the open beta not "launching" without a hitch. It's a free beta, players are supposed to expect and put up with this kind of thing.

And the Euro side is working now no? Was it a 24 hour delay? You'd think they took everyones money and delivered nothing by the posts...

I'm also impressed with the totally seemless world (so far). I've never hit a load screen, you walk straight into caves, when you reach the end of the area (on the world map) you just walk right into the next.

I haven't seen much of an economy or a trade system for players to browse other players items for sale, I'm sure it's here somewhere but it's not obvious.

Anyone else highly annoyed with mobs being unattackable? It's especially annoying with ranged mobs since they can attack you, but you can't attack them. This seemed to happen when they pushed the "mobs will now properly chase players" bug fix.

I would be able to advise if I could GET IN THE FUCKING GAME!

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.

Lol. While true, can you blame Funcom? Every time they went on the US forums a group of folks there were basically just shouting 'F U FAILCOM!' while on the euro forums people were and still are much more constructive.

How about COMPLETELY FIXING THEM RIGHT NOW YOU FUCKING MORON!

That post is 100% insignificant - considering you CAN'T EVEN LOG INTO THEIR PAGE TO ENTER YOUR CODE!

Biggest morons ever.

Here's what I don't understand. I validated my account already (during the 20 seconds the site was up) and they had already e-mailed me a beta code.

Now, put 2 and 2 together. I validated my account, AND YOU E-MAILED ME A BETA CODE. Why would I have to re-enter that code via my account page - shouldn't they already be connected? Idiots.

Can't even log into the game with my username/pw - although I have validated my account.

There are way bigger issues than what they are saying in that post.

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.s{
