If you click through the Dell recall article you'll notice the laptops in question are Manufactured in: Japan and United States. The batteries, according to are Manufactured in: Japan, China, Taiwan and Malaysia.

Made in China still means cheap. There's torrents of cheap junk, but the amount of manufacturing going on is vast and there's a huge variety. Point your fingers at the brand company, the variation comes from the product design and how much they pay and quality-control the Chinese manufacture.

There's good argument that fingers should be pointed at consumers for the crap they buy, but in this case they're paying the Sony brand premium because they think it means high quality.

Dell is a member of Texas' PC recycling scheme, and why not too when they're planning to close their PC factories anyway?

5. Six-Core Chip Sep 7, 2008, 01:06 ldonyo
While a decent technical achievement, this is pointless on a practical level. Almost no software used by most people today makes use of two cores, let alone four. What possible purpose, other than making up for certain anatomical shortages, could a six-core CPU have? Heck, most server-run apps barely use multi-threaded architectures as things stand now. Giving them more cores won't help.

Made in China use to mean cheap... now it means cheap junk, with lead based paint, and poison added as filler.

The Sony Viao is the laughing stock of the laptop world - always has been. They are the shittiest things I have ever seen. This is no surprise.

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.
