DNF "Coming Together"

Duke Nukem Forever: "things are coming together" on Computer and Video Games hears from George Broussard of 3D Realms about progress on Duke Nukem Forever. According to George, "there are several hours of fairly polished game to play," and they are currently getting feedback from play testers "and things are coming together." He also says "It's fun, it's in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it's just a matter of time now. I've probably never been as happy or excited about the game as I am these days."

If there are several hours of finished game at this point, can't they make a demo out of that? Say, a half hour segment, or one level, or whatever?

If they have other plans for their public demo, then couldn't they at least release this one to various magazines/websites/etc. for preview purposes?

If they really do have three hours of the game complete, and everything else is coming together, then the game should be nearing completion. Isn't this the time to lift their blackout and start releasing REAL info (screenshots, videos, single player length, multiplayer map figures, etc.)?

Probably if the Large Hadron Collider doesn't cause reality to implode

*giggles*

Scientist 1 : Oh come on! We're just accelerating several unstable molecules up to the speed of light and crashing them into each other? What could go wrong?!

Scientist 2 : Uhm, sir?

Scientist 1 : You're always bleating on and on about how what we do is just blind testing, not really science at all, we're just doing random shit and hoping for the best, but really now...

Scientist 2 : Siiiiirr!!

Scientist 1 : What?!

Scientist 2 : I think I just created a black hole in the earth's core...

Scientist 1 : Uhm... Can we close it with a nuclear bomb?

They didn't take any pre-orders AFAIK

3DR didn't, but gamestores did. PC Gamer ran a letter from a guy about a year ago or so, I think, who had pre-ordered the game from gamestop in 97. There was a picture of his pre-order stub with it, pretty funny.

With simple money market interest alone, that 10 dollar pre-order has cost that kid close to seventy hojillion dollars.

Is 3DR trying to test the Shakespeare typewriter monkey theory?

That's being cruel to the monkeys. Only single celled amoeba work at 3DR anymore.

Monkeys would have shipped DNF in 2002.

11 years for "several hours of fairly polished gameplay."

So this will be released in... 2023 then?

Fuck, Blizzard will have released Diablo 4 before George ever gets his shit out the door.

@ Overon

Unfortunately that means the game will be both released, and not released.

The great news is by the time it's available, we'll have Quantum computers.

Unfortunately that means the game will be both released, and not released.

You're better than that

Uhh no he isn't. Have you read the majority of his posts?

That isn't to say that Nuclear Watchdog's post shouldn't have been deleted too. Hell Nuclear Watchdog should just be banned. He never contributes any sort of useful dialogue or discussion, and just posts absolute garbage.

While I still feel that most of dsmart's comments are antagonistic and garbage, at least he doesn't just act like a Tourettes victim on crack all the time.

Your response was over the top, even for you Derek -- it should have been deleted. You're better than that, don't let the drones/trolls get to you.

Good point. You're probably right.

these phrases and headlines such as DNF "Coming Together" mean nothing. Until they show something concrete to media and people at some event keep dreaming. Hype much?

Seriously though, I'm not sure what would happen the day DNF is announced as finished and a demo is released. Probably if the Large Hadron Collider doesn't cause reality to implode, that single DNF event alone probably will.

@ Nuclear Watchdog

I'm getting tired of this George. I was in DIAPERS when you first stared making this game, you fat fuck! Get your fucking act together, or keep your fucking mouth *shut*

You posted this crap in #12. I responded in #31 about your deplorable "fat" joke and it gets removed?

Oh well - but I still maintain that if we had a photo of you, we'd probably see a bunch of defects. Plus you're probably fat too.

I wonder what kind of DRM they are going to use for this? It seems very likely to suffer from a high piracy to sale ratio if only due to its infamy. Will they shoot themselves in the foot by going with something that will hurt sales like SecuROM w/ install limits? Or will they be smart and release it as a Steam exclusive?

Some time ago Blue posted a link for some video interview (I dont quite remember who it was that was doing the interviewing) at 3drealms and they actually had some shakycam footage of a playable DukeNukem forever build. I remember it looked a lot like Quake4 with funky weapons and shrinkray. It actually looked worse than that teaser video they released back in 2001

I have a nifty blue line!

bwaaaahahahahahahahahaha

What a joke.

Show the game if you have "several hours of gameplay".

Otherwise - STFU and go away.

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.
