While I agree that putting little snippets of motion control instances in games is gimmicky and almost pointless....see Ratchet & Clank (you could turn it off BTW!).

While other games like Burnout Paradise was freaking great using the SIXAXIS motion control. It did take getting used to, but it was a lot more fun drifting around sharp turns at high speed when controlling with motion control.

It ultimately depends on implementation and function. Some developers will make piss-poor gimmicky use out of it, others will make it work well for their game.

Personally I hate the PS3's SixAxis. The recent Ratchet and Clank games were incredible, but then they'd have the occasional puzzle (or scene) where you had to use the SixAxis while gliding and it was a pain.

It's fine if you're doing something like play a sports game on a Wii, but for mostly everything else it's a poor gimick.

motion control is certainly fine for some games (like a marble madness game) but basically its a gimmick -- no one wants to flail around non-stop unless its a party game and/or you're a teen.

The Mayan calendar was actually predicting the eighth generation of consoles rather than some cataclysmic event.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. is also rumoured to be developing motion-sesitive [sic] game controller.

They should call their motion sensitive controller something catchy like SIXAXIS or DualShock3.

Killzone 2 is looking better and better and seems that it will be much more than "just another shooter". Can't wait.

Microsoft Readies Motion-Sensitive Controller for Video Games for Holiday 2008 – Rumours.

I think they missed the boat.....if you are talking about motion control like the PS3 - cool, if you are talking motion control like the Wii - no thanks.

Don't hear many people talk about how awesome their Wii is......that motion thing is still a gimmick to me. No thanks.

The cause of all these evils was the lust for power arising from greed and ambition; and from these passions proceeded the violence of parties once engaged in contention.

So are they saying that 2012 when the current generation of consoles will cease being called "next generation"?
