Call of Duty 6 in 2009

Kotaku reports plans for another Call of Duty game in 2009 beyond Treyarch's upcoming Call of Duty: World At War, which is due later this year. This is based on a revelation during a conference call following Activision Blizzard's latest financial report where CEO Bobby Kotick said the sixth CoD game would be released in 2009 because they will "leapfrog" studios, which suggests that CoD4 developer Infinity Ward will be handling this title. Kotaku mentions a rumor that IW is working on a science-fiction shooter, and speculate whether CoD 6 will be fought with ray guns, though it was also recently reported the developer is cultivating an entirely new intellectual property (story).

You mean as in them never hitting anything? I loved all the stormtroopers constantly bitching about that.

(note : props to Firefox 3.0's spelling/grammar shit for recognizing stormtroopers!)

I loved CoD4. I think it's a great game. If they want me to get CoD6, it's really simple : DO NOT SET IT IN WORLD WAR FUCKING TWO.

I don't want to shoot another M1 Garand.

A sci fi CoD could be pretty awesome, as long as they spend some time actually developing their universe.

So, Infinity Ward : NO WW2.

Thank you.

The original Dark Force was the only one to really get the 'feel' of the blaster rifles right.

I thought the blasters felt fine in Jedi Outcast and Academy.

I think Outcast and Academy had a LOT going for them.

Light Saber fights were the best out of all of the Lucas Art games. And compared to regular sword-fighting games it definitely ranks up there as well. As for the FPS shooter portion, from what I recall it did a good job. Then again once I got the saber I didn't use the guns often.

Further off topic, I am severely disappointed at Soul Calibur's depiction of light saber matches. Ignoring the fact that it is 100 flavors of stupid for Vader/Yoda/Apprentice to appear, it's lame on many levels.

While The Apprentice's stance looks cool and has decent powers, light saber matches feel SO bland. The only time it even sounds like a match is when there's a successful block. Otherwise it's like swinging cardboard tubes around, including the sound it makes when it hits an opponent. Personally I'd rather play as a character WITH a cardboard tube (and I'm not even talking about the Penny Arcade Samurai).

The Star Wars FPSes were awesome too!
Well, in all fairness, the only combat that really worked from Dark Forces 2 onwards was the lightsaber duelling...

The original Dark Force was the only one to really get the 'feel' of the blaster rifles right. From then on, it's either been a secondary concern after the saber or just flat out lacked feel (see: Republic Commando)

This could be good. SciFi is cool if it's done right. And I guess I'm the only one that hasn't gotten bored of the WWII themed FPSs. If the game is engaging and fun with fantastic graphics, I'm happy.

It does seem like lasers are the kiss of death for FPS though, the last game I can remember that used them decently was ST: Elite Force eons ago.
I had great fun with that game - it made good use of the franchise and the multiplayer was a blast too. I'd love to see a modern Star Trek FPS, though that doesn't exactly seem likely in the current climate.

Haha! You have some personal, sensitivity and insecurity issues right there son!

And clearly you have some superiority issues as you insist on labeling things that you clearly do not know, and calling people "son" without knowing their age.

I'd throw some random Latin phrases in there to sound psuedo-intellectual, but I'm tired and don't feel like looking any up. However if I did that, I'd probably get hired by Kotaku or some other rag sheet blog.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Red something or other done that with a Q3 mod available for purchase and download on Steam?

Red Orchestra is WWII, not WWI - that's the thing, if you drop the thompsons, mp40's and garands, you can make a WWI game. Make that 1911 MUCH more important. Would be a ton of fun, imho. Someone did make battlefield 1918, but I really really don't want to load up an old battlefield mod.

I also think a vietnam'ish game could be done with a disparity of sides. Have the US side have clearly better equipment, but have them be at a 2:1 disadvantage for actual men on the field.

That sounds like every CoD game ever. Only, the ratio should be 100:1.

You didn't even read the first sentence of the news post, did you? No, you didn't. Dumbass.

LOL! I'll take that one - I misread the opening line as CoD WaW being the 6th one. Meh- that's what I get for posting early on a Sunday morning.

Considering how well CoD4 did I can't believe the next IW game won't be very similar with just juiced up production values and some little additions (as opposed to the farmed-out game coming out first which will probably be mediocre on all levels).

A near-future infantry combat game would be interesting, the technology level of Deus Ex or MGS4 translated into the small/medium-scale battles that CoD does so well. It does seem like lasers are the kiss of death for FPS though, the last game I can remember that used them decently was ST: Elite Force eons ago.

I would love to see a sci-fi based CoD portrayed in a realistic manner. No aliens, no robots, just futuristic combat that doesn't even have to necessarily be with lasers.

Wow, way to be a dick. And if you would follow this shit, you would know that they've decided that Infinity Ward is going to be the ones with numbered games and Treyarch is going to have the named "knock offs". So COD6 I doubt it will be, most likely COD5 since "World at War" isn't being seen as a true sequel.

A group was working on a HL2 mod called Flanders Fields, but it has since been abandoned unfortunately.

I was kind of excited about this one, but it was MP only.

WWI FPS - could be great. Bolt action rifles, semi-auto pistols, bayonets. Deployed MGs, and the occasional giant tank.

I think that:

WWI FPS - could be great. Bolt action rifles, semi-auto pistols, bayonets. Deployed MGs, and the occasional giant tank. Could be tons of fun. And bi-plane bombers dropping hand grenades.

I also think that some korean FPS could be good... M14's against SKSs no?

I also think a vietnam'ish game could be done with a disparity of sides. Have the US side have clearly better equipment, but have them be at a 2:1 disadvantage for actual men on the field.
