IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today announced that tickets for its third BlizzCon™ gaming convention will go on sale August 11 and that live coverage of the event will be available as an exclusive DIRECTV pay per view event. BlizzCon is a celebration of the global player communities surrounding Blizzard Entertainment®’s Warcraft®, Diablo®, and StarCraft® game universes. The event will take place at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California on October 10 and 11.

“Meeting and interacting with our players at BlizzCon is always a great experience for us,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re also pleased to be working with DIRECTV this year to bring the show, for the first time, to those players who are unable to attend.”

In addition to serving as a gathering place for the different Blizzard Entertainment gaming communities, BlizzCon will offer an array of activities, including discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games, tournaments, contests, and more. Tickets to the convention will be priced at $100 USD each, and will be available for purchase directly from the official BlizzCon website at www.blizzcon.com.

While applicable to E3 and the like, I believe the reason BlizzCon takes place in Anaheim is because Blizzard is maybe 10 minutes away, in Irvine, and it's their show. You wouldn't expect them to hold it in Kansas in this case.
This is true. However, while I might not expect it, it's certainly something they could do.

I wiwhs people who do conventions would start setting them in maybe the central northern US or something so people from all over Canada and the US could go to 1 central location. It would be much easier - not to mention fair, rathern than having everyone just head to 1 really out of the way southwestern point of the US which is only convenient for those who live nearby.

If it's anything like last year you can't ebay your tickets. You can ONLY pick up the tickets with the credit card and name purchased under. If you want to ebay your tickets, basically, you'd have to go to the event, pick up the tickets yourself, and hand them to someone else (who will then be walking around with your name).

That is my biggest gripe with most of these types of conventions.

MPLS would be a great place to hold something like this. We have the space, the infrastructure (minus 1 bridge), hotels, clubs, etc etc etc.

We have had the Super Bowl, Olympics, NCAA Final 4, MLB Championship, and many more events that are 10x bigger than these conventions.

You got a great body, but your record collection sucks....

Do you get a beta key if you spend $1,000 on a ticket?

100 seems high for your own damn convention. Way to stick it to your fan base.

Im putting 5$ on Diablo 3 being playable, albeit with only the two classes they showed off already...Maybe one more.

*sigh*

I trully love/hate Blizzard games (except for WoW). the "waiting" for "when its done" is terrible.

I have a nifty blue line!

They need to release the info on what's going to be available in the loot bag. So I can drool over it and wish I could go. I'm thinking Diablo 3 may be playable this year, since I think Starcraft was last year.

A pay per view event for BlizzCon? I'd love to hear the number of sales on that afterwards...

I would buy a ticket if Blizzard would ship me a loot bag. But I don't believe that's going to happen.

100$ seems a bit expensive, but then again considering the huge amount of fans Blizzard has, and the line-up of titles at the event. They could charge 1000$ per ticket and still fill the house.

Yep, call me an asshat but I don't care if I get a pair there going straight to Ebay. That if your able to sell them on Ebay. I'm not a big Blizzard fan although I do appreciate there genius in "simple" games for people. I'll take an eastern Euro dev house any day over Blizzard.

Let's see how long the Blizzard servers last under the onslaught of people trying to buy tickets at 12:01am 8/11.

Already people are talking about buying multiple tickets strictly for the loot bag. Hope Blizz limits ticket purchases...
