Age of Conan Patch Plans

The Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Website has details on upcoming updates for Funcom's MMORPG (thanks Voodoo Extreme):
We want to give you a short outlook about things to come in both this week's update as well as the plans for the update scheduled for next week. This week’s update will be a smaller maintenance one in order for us to tidy up a couple of the issues while we work on the next larger update which is currently being tested and hopefully will be ready for the live servers next week.

Our tech team is hard at work to investigate about memory leaks (like for example the issue with your map going gray) and they have made inroads on those issues, and we have found and resolved a couple with this weeks update. This is of course a process that does not end now - on the contrary. The team will keep on working hard to find the leaks that are still there so we can expect more of them to be resolved in updates to come. Finding such memory leaks is quite a tricky thing but we are making progress and the tech team is keeping the focus on this issue.

Also fixed should be the issues from last week was the behavior of caster pets as some of them were in fact quite passive after they had been summoned. Our developers have found the source of that issue and the fix for this is getting tested by QA so this week's update should resolve this issue.

Lastly with this week’s update we wanted to give you all the opportunity to revise your feat points given the recent changes to the abilities and feat trees. What we have done is that the counter of how many times a character has reset his feats will be set to zero so the next reset will be viewed as being the first one in terms of money it will cost, as if you had never reset any feats before.

As we mentioned at the top, the update planned for next week should include some additions and changes that our community has been looking forward to (beside the usual fixes and updates).

Yes because bitching and moaning about it on a forum will make the dev's see the error of their ways and jump right on it.

"It go no where after level 20."

Be more descriptive. What exactly is the problem after lvl 20? From what I can see there are at least three areas to play in, plus dungeons, with a tonne of quests. Try Fields of the Dead, there's a lot of varied gameplay there from lvl 20 to 40. In fact, I enjoyed the game most during that time.

I was put off because it looks kiddy, and has attracted players with such a low level of intellect,

Like most MMOs.

I'd rather play something else.

Hungry Hungry Hippo perhaps?

Leave the idiots to their little Warcraft game

11 million players.

give AoC a go...

It go no where after level 20.

The game isn't bug free, but I don't see what is broken about it. A few quests are bugged (like 1 or 2) the Guild Bank and bazaar needs a rework, the occasional lag spike, but apart from that I find it smooth as silk.

Enjoyed every minute to lvl 72 so far, and can't wait to finish the levelling. Areas are beautiful, the fatalaties are excellent, I've been addicted since I unwrapped the game.

So, wtf is everyone on about?

I've played nearly every other MMO out there, except WoW which I tried during beta then never touched again. I was put off because it looks kiddy, and has attracted players with such a low level of intellect, I'd rather play something else.

Leave the idiots to their little Warcraft game, give AoC a go...

This coming from the same "Fion" who told me I was deluded and wrong when I reported after the beta weekend that it was a closed off mmo world and that it ran like shit even on a 9600gt. Now what do we have, a huge memory leak issue and a closed off isolated MMO that is fun for 20 levels are then turns to complete broken junk. Far from deluded, if anyone is deluded here it is you and your fanboy posts in every thread about this fucking game.

See, I have a right to bitch about this P.O.S. mmo since I spent 50 fuckin dollars on it. What a waste of money.

AoC: A game with a great first 20 levels and poorly though out thereafter. If they could keep the same kind of quality in the rest of the game as they did in the Tortage levels, this game would have been amazing. As it is ...... it's "meh".

I personally wouldn't call it 'meh' as IMHO it's one of the more enjoyable MMOGs out there at the moment.

But I do agree. It's rather clear that they wanted to give players a good first impression but simply didn't keep that level of detail past 20. Hell IMHO if they simply included voice overs for most quests and kept the quality of quests at what they are at Tortage, it'd have been a great launch. (Not counting all the bugs and broken stuff lol.)

Funny thing is thats exactly what they are doing. Adding voice to over 60 quests that they see as most fitting to the lore. There are some very cool quests in the game post Tortage, and this will hopefully highlight them.

I agree Talisom, the first part of the game is great, then sadly you leave that area and well it goes downhill from there.

Yeah there are some issues with the game but hell every MMO to date has had to cover it's ass the first 6 months of launch in one way or another.

Considering how AO is now, compared to when it launched I think AoC will turn out ok.

The game is fun to play, bugs and all.

As far as the whiners go...just par for the course for every new mmo release. My server is busy as ever.

I've been playing it since release and haven't had any serious problems. I've had some, probably leak-related, crashes, but once every several hours is, for me, tolerable. I like the innovative combat system (for an MMO), scaled instances and random encounters (in resource areas), but other than that it reminds me of Vanguard in many ways. Fortunately, it isn't as broken or unfinished as Vanguard was at release, so there may be some hope. (I really wanted to like Vanguard.)

One fear I do have is of the often inevitable dumbing-down of MMOs. Putting in "teleport" functionality to shorten travel is the first step. For me, travel leads to more encounters with other players on the road, good or bad. And, if they would extend the random encounter feature, it would be a nice start to developing the "meaningful travel" a lot of us are looking for.

So, some good, new things, but not as much to excite me and keep me playing as I thought there would be.

I've experienced the memory leaks and worked my way around them. I can now play as long as I want and have no issues whatsoever. You realize the masses are not affected by these leaks to the point where the game is unplayable, correct?

And that's not the point... these people are still extreme and you disputing that leads me to believe you actually belong in an infomercial.

AO's biggest issues at release were server stability and lag. AoC is almost perfect in both categories.

I still play and mostly enjoy it. The comments on here are extreme (as usual).

I love how when myself and several other beta testers were telling everyone else the game sucked, people would slam us as WoW fanboys. Well, at least I didn't waste 60 bucks on this POS.

It seems they have not learned any lessons whatsoever from their past experience.

Sure they did. They learned that it would probably take them a good 6 months from release to actually have a working game.

Perhaps my memory is fading, but I seem to recall Funcom making a mess of their Anarchy Online launch.

It seems they have not learned any lessons whatsoever from their past experience.

Over zealous is a nice way to put it :p

But yea, a great many 'haters' are actually folks who think AoC could really be a great MMOG, Funcom just needs to get on the ball, and lately they have done just that.

some people are a bit over zealous when talking about this game.

its not that the game system is bad, there is just very little to do with your character. there are bugs, but most of them have been easy to deal with. having to restart every few zones sucks, but realy thats the biggest problem.

also, the "big" pvp update that is coming is just another system(so far as i can tell). not new content. and while it is def. needed, the system will not add anything to do. they also said that they are adding some new zones, but i believe they are 65-70. lvl 80's are gonna be in the same boat.

my sub ran out yesterday and i may resub at some point. what i will want to see is some meaningful pvp, or some cool adventure type stuff for coop. ive heard that they only store your character info for 3 months once you stop paying, so that will have some impact on it.
