HanbitSoft on Flagship

HanbitSoft: "Flagship Is Selfish And Irresponsible" on Hellgate Guru translates an article originally written in Korean where HanbitSoft lays into Flagship management over the uncertain state of the Hellgate: London and Mythos IPs (story), and says they are considering legal action to protect their interests and those of their userbase. Here's a bit:
According to HanbitSoft, they offered several methods and the means to keep Flagship alive in consideration of the users, but Flagship majorly lacked in effort. Hanbitsoft already has offered large amounts of investments but Flagship replied with ridiculous counter-offers and the negotiations went south. Even so, HanbitSoft continued to make investment offers which were all rejected, leading to the lay-offs of all of the Flagship employees.

HanbitSoft also stated, “Flagship not only lacked effort, but were only looking for personal gain. Firing all of the Flagship employees in order to protect the personal interests of its founding members only shows how selfish and irresponsible they are.”

And so the drama continues. Closing the co was probably the smart choice, not necessarily selfish. Why feed a cancerous tumor?

Without a doubt Flagship is selfish and irresponsible, amongst a LOT OF OTHER THINGS.

They made THE most expensive ARPG to date, maybe the most expensive game EVER for what you got for the price.

They charged customer "Founders" $150 and all they got was $80 worth of investment basically wasting $70.

They charged Subscribers $10 a month for ONE, thats ONE major content update for a total of $80.

Let's lay this out, the game was about the size of Diablo 2, it had 5 Acts, so for simple math lets say each Act would cost about $10 each if you bought the game at $50. Ok, Stonehenge, their ONE AND ONLY additional Act (Chronicle as they called it), which was about the size of one Act from the core game, cost subscribers $80 fucking dollars!!!!!! Thats 8x more then one Act from the core game. And not only that, but Stonehenge had NO Quests or additional story line to the game, all it ended up being was a sandbox to just run around in... for $80... RIP OFF.

Then they tried saying that the Subscription also gave you -

A D2 Cube Ripoff - Free with D2.
Shared Stash - Free with Guild Wars and Titan Quest:IT

And then the Cherry on top - IN GAME ADS

Just an unbelievable fucking greedy company. I don't feel bad for Bill "The Big Sushi" Roper at all, what a bunch of self serving bastards.

I suspected such idiocy back in the Beta, but especially the first day of release of the game - it was awful.

They deserve no respect, yet the Lifetime Subscriber fanboys STILL offer financial help to Flagship right now on the main forums.

A game run by and played by FOOLS.

Now, this could be the first videogame movie that really worked.

Or perhaps a documentary about how to royally fuck up a good concept.

So many possibilities...

A film version would flop as hard as the game for a number of reasons:
1. Nobody who knew of the game would give at a second glance apart from Roper's fanbois.
2. Anyone who didn't know of the game but knew the film was based on a game would avoid it like the plague.
3. The budget would have to be huge to pull off demons even remotely well.
4. "Doomsday" has just done the whole post-apocalyptic in a ruined city (they even smartly did it in glasgow so they didn't have to dress it much). The budget was 30m and it made about 20m at the box office. Whilst it did have a lot of gore effects it didn't need creature FX so a Hellgate movie would need a lot bigger budget.
5. "I am Legend" did pull off the post-apocalyptic thing - but it cost 150m!

SO basically it would need a huge budget and not many people would go and see it. I doubt we'll see a hellgate movie anytime soon (unless it a documentary on how to stiff your customers via the power of PR)

Generally I am willing to go out on a limb and give Roper&Co. the benefit of a doubt that this was not brought on by themselves.

However, if what HanbiSoft says is true and that they were being irresponsible and selfish about how they "ran" the operation than I hope Flagship gets taken to the cleaners.

I wonder how Roper feels to see Diablo 3 in production and have his company fall out from under it. Seems like a suitable way for him to go. He'll probably try and crawl back to Blizzard, but I doubt anyone wants him now.

HanbitSoft also stated, “Flagship not only lacked effort, but were only looking for personal gain. Firing all of the Flagship employees in order to protect the personal interests of its founding members only shows how selfish and irresponsible they are.”

Also the lifetime subscriptions Flagship sold knowing they would never deliver anything.

Employee: "Bill what the hell?! There is still room on the life boat! Where are you going?"

Bill: "I'm going to get out of this... I'm going to go on and I'm going to make babies and watch them grow and I'm going to die an old lady, warm in my bed. Not here. Not this night. Do you understand me?"

Employee: "I can't feel my body."

Flagship not only lacked effort, but were only looking for personal gain.

yep, and that statement also encapsulates the entire history of the company and Hellgate development
