HanbitSoft on Flagship

HanbitSoft: "Flagship Is Selfish And Irresponsible" on Hellgate Guru translates an article originally written in Korean where HanbitSoft lays into Flagship management over the uncertain state of the Hellgate: London and Mythos IPs (story), and says they are considering legal action to protect their interests and those of their userbase. Here's a bit:
According to HanbitSoft, they offered several methods and the means to keep Flagship alive in consideration of the users, but Flagship majorly lacked in effort. Hanbitsoft already has offered large amounts of investments but Flagship replied with ridiculous counter-offers and the negotiations went south. Even so, HanbitSoft continued to make investment offers which were all rejected, leading to the lay-offs of all of the Flagship employees.

HanbitSoft also stated, “Flagship not only lacked effort, but were only looking for personal gain. Firing all of the Flagship employees in order to protect the personal interests of its founding members only shows how selfish and irresponsible they are.”

I dont think we are getting the whole picture here,
Hanbisoft probably tried to buy the entire company which Roper and crew refused and instead fired everybody, since they wanted to keep the IP i guess.

Im not trying to defend Flagship here, they messed this whole thing up royaly, but how would you react and what would you do if someone offered to save your company but in return you have to give up all of your independence and ownership rights and in general become employee instead of employer.

Remember these guys left Blizzard to start their own thing. You think they would be happy working for a lousy Korean publisher?

I have a nifty blue line!

Tiggs is a she, and yeah she's pretty much been at the shit end of games lately from SWG to HGL.

And she started up some sort of Customer Service Service for games.

Tiggs? Wasn't he the community majordomo for SWG?! Ohhhh the irony!

I always thought Tiggs was a chic. Whoever it is, that person is a board Nazi like I've never seen before, literally locking or removing negative posts 12 hours a day. Still wasn't enough to keep them off the website, due to all the...fans..., that Flagship has.

Had to have been a tough job nonetheless. Wonder what he/she/it will do for a living now.

It seems like they have already scaled back on the majority of the forums (or at least locked them behind logins.)

As poster "JustinO" replied in the thread:

But I thought Roper said Flagship was doing fine?

Man, this company Roper and crew just LOVE screwing over the end users.
Don't go! All is Well. <silence> Bye!

I was playing Age of Conan with my new Conqueror named "Flagshipped", and within a couple hours I was disconnected, only to reconnect and get a "Please rename your character" dialog box.

Well, it was funny while it lasted.

*probably had something to do with the fact that my name started arguments everywhere I went*

another thought...I hate to sound like I'm stereotyping here but isn't this somewhat out of character for a Korean company to be airing its dirty laundry like this? Even if it isn't, the level of rhetoric coming from HanbitSoft definitely is for an Asian company.

@Ludomancer

Valve is mainly the only company I can think of that money is isn't the top priority. They provide new content for all their games for free and give plenty of post-release support.

Breaking news! Flagship responds with "I know you are, but what am I?" Asked to comment further, Flagship commented on the fact that they are indeed rubber while HanbitSoft is glue. Therefore, anything that is said will bounce off them and... stick to HanbitSoft.

HanbitSoft, appalled at the accusations by Flagship, assured their followers that are actually NOT glue, and mentioned that they're bones can be broken by sticks and stones - but names won't hurt them. Film at 11.

I hope this drags Roper down with it. Time to get that no-talent ass-clown out of this biz once and for all.

Either way, aren't they the same people that ran it into the ground? Ignored the community? Charged an arm and a leg for a limited product? Promised one thing (while charging for it) and not delivering? Ignored the user base through the weekend, through Monday, and most of Tuesday? Screwed over the "Founders?" Is screwing over any new purchasers of the game? These are just a few items of concern...

Yet they happened to have all the money on hand to pay the employees for a month. Gee, I wonder where it came from...

It's not just a company closing or a game not succeeding. Flagship, its management, has exhibited profound levels of arrogance, incompetence, and a certain magnitude of disdain for the community.
And again, we wanted this to work. We liked the original game. We've been voal.
Not wanting companies to fail, but celebrating the failure of Flagship,
Ray

This sort of reminds me of Enron, Robbin Williams joked about how they took your money and ran.

With Flagship it's more like "We take your money and sink like Titanic, but not before sneaking off to one of the lifeboats filled with teh money!".

...but were only looking for personal gain. Firing all of the Flagship employees in order to protect the personal interests of its founding members only shows how selfish and irresponsible they are.

That's the entire game industry in a nutshell. Someone call me when we get people to run the show that aren't greed-infested fucktards.

It's not the entire industry, but with how much money successful studios bring in it's going to bring every 2 bit hack out of the woodwork to try and make his millions off the insatiable demand that gamers have.

Good companies still exist but you have to be more vigilent than ever with regard to new companies because gaming is the new "get rich quick scheme". With the right marketing machine you can sell shit in a box. I'm looking at you ARMY OF TWO.

I think Funcom and Age of Conan might be in the same bag with how they released conan. The game was ok for the first part but seemed to lead into nothing after a week or 2 of play... Their latest patch was impressive but I've cancelled my account and am waiting at this point.

You guys know the brass paid out of pocket money to the employees for a month, right? That's totally and completely selfish, I know.

it was 'reported' they did. it was not confirmed in any way.

infact i read two different storys on it. one that said roper helped pay them. another one that said roper was the only head of flagship that refused to pay.

do some fucking research.
