Why would he be joking? I also thought this game looks fantastic. How much better does it have to look? Just being able to play a game like this in the Fallout universe with this much playtime(100 hrs!!!) is unreal.

They want it to look like the "old" Fallout", that's why they say that.

this "trailer" reminded me of a horrible song I have not thought or heard of since I was maybe in 4th or 5th grade. "Things that make you go Hmmm" by C+C Music Factory... yuck.

I agree. But I still fear it's going to be a mile wide and an inch deep, just like Bethesda's previous games...

Why does this trailer only show stuff blowing up? They could show some dialogue, stealth, hacking, etc.

I'm only basing this on what I've seen and read but my take...

- sepia environments (I know this is a post-nuclear wasteland, but still...)

- dumb AI

- pointless FPS

- absolutely no uses for VATS (so i pause the action to see some chance-to-hit stats then fire?)

- broken or inconsistent story (BOS working with the Enclave? WTF?)

- 100 hours sounds totally misleading because if you're given a big ass sandbox to roam around in with nothing beyond the simple "My family will die unless we have three carrots by morning" repetitive side-quests then what's the point?

Now if Bethesda decides to release Fallout 3 DRM free then I will love the game and will gladly buy it.

EA's gleeful plunge into DRM madness is making me consider NOT BUYING Spore, Mass Effect 2, or any other future EA games.

To be fair, I think the whole BoS/Enclave thing was just a mistake on behalf of a retarded "journalist."

Aside from that, your criticisms seem about right based on what I saw in the E3 presentation. Granted, it was only 5 minutes (seems like all the presentations were limited to 5 minutes) but the AI looked dumb, the environment was boring and VATS appeared to be pretty redundant since real-time accuracy isn't affected by weapon skill.

I'm hoping that an extended walkthrough demo reveals more of the "RPG" in the game. From what I've read, you can actually do some cool things like sneak up behind enemies and drop live grenades in their pants. Unfortunately, those cool things seem few and far between.

@ kxmode:

So... you list half a dozen negative points concerning the game. This would lead me to believe that based on what you've seen, you feel the workmanship is not up to par, the Fallout legacy will be tarnished, and that it just won't be a good game. Fair enough.

Then, after you make all those points that seem to be based on what you've observed of what's been revealed of the game thus far, you contradict everything and say:

Now if Bethesda decides to release Fallout 3 DRM free then I will love the game and will gladly buy it.

You'll LOVE the game? Even in the face of all these flaws? You'll gladly buy it? Even though you've taken a negative tone towards it so far and have more bad than good to say for it? For no other reason than it doesn't have DRM? If it all it takes to get your money is to not include DRM, I'm going to fire up Visual Studio right now and churn out some POS that will be entirely DRM free, because apparently that's the most important point to you.

If you're going to bash the game, that's your right. If you're going to bash Draconian DRM schemes, that's your right. Don't get the two confused, though because that just makes it look like you climbed up on the soapbox for no good reason.

@VT Hoodlum

You're right, of course. Allow me to revise my words.

Now if Bethesda decides to release Fallout 3 DRM free then I will give this game a fair shot and think about buying it.

I had a rough day at work. I wasn't thinking clearly.

Yeah, I understand that. I tend to have a bad habit of picking apart posts, just because people on the internet tend to spew so much crap and call it rational opinion. I just watched the trailer and came back underwhelmed. There's more to Fallout than 50's style PSA's and post apocalyptic combat. I understand depth and nuance are tough to convey in a trailer, but I would have liked to see something besides "Bloody Mess" style takedowns.

You'd be pissed too if the long awaited sequel to one of your favorite games turned out to be a cheap cash in. For example, imagine that a new Thief game was announced, but that, in order to appeal to the rapidly growing casual game market, Thief 4 will be a series of motion-sensitive minigames for the Wii. All the characters and atmosphere you remember will return, but none of the gameplay that made the original so memorable. How would you feel about that, even if it was the best Wii minigame collection ever made?

I'm reserving my judgment until the game is in front of me. Until then, it's far too easy to get lost in our glory days of Fallout especially after two POS that were released after FO/2.

I will say that that the market for 3d isometric games has slowly fallen towards the wayside, there aren't many companies that make games like that anymore. Hell there aren't many companies that make good games with a compelling story but I'm already preaching to the choir.

This trailer makes the game look a lot better than the E3 gameplay footage did. Not amazing, but better.

From what I've seen so far though, it really doesn't deserve the Fallout 3 title.
