LucasFilm Files New Star Wars Trademarks, Is The Old Republic Its New MMO? on
Kotaku (thanks Mike Martinez) points out that LucasFilm has filed trademark
applications for
Star
Wars The Old Republic,
The
Old Republic,
Star
Wars Sagas, and
Star
Wars Legends, each being described as "video game software" and
"entertainment services provided on-line by means of global and local area
networks." They point out this could be part of the plan a Star Wars MMOG that's
been the subject of heavy speculation for quite some time now. May the Force be
with us.

Remember that Star Wars = adventure. Don't make another crafters wet dream grindfest like SWG.

Nor should they take a uniquely structured craftfest and try to turn it into WoW in space... I would have stayed with SWG if it had continued being SWG. I liked its old classless system where I could just become good at whatever I wanted.

You know an MMOG can have great crafting AND great adventure. And if anyone could do that.. it'd be Bioware.
Though yea SWG's crafting was really it's biggest feature (and remains in the best in the industry by FAR,) were as it really wasn't 'star warsy' at all lol.
I'd almost prefer an MMOG set in Mass Effect's universe. Now that LS has a trademark named 'Star Wars - The Old Republic' thats about as close as you can get to saying 'we have a new Star Wars MMOG and it's from Bioware, makers of Knights of the Old Republic' as you can get without full on announcing it.

somebody needs to invent a whole new MMOrpg model .. the everquest circa 98 shit is getting old
I agree, as much as I enjoy AoC for it's combat. The level design and EQ style.. everything besides combat, is a bit annoying. I mean we have Eve and such.. but I don't enjoy eve. SWG was awesome.. but then the NGE hit. We really need a non-EQ model MMOG from a good company that can afford to make an MMOG that comes out in solid shape (IE they have the clout and the funds to do something different and make it GOOD and SOLID out the gate.) If anyone can do that.. it's Bioware.
Evidence continues to grow. If it's anywhere near as good as the first KoTOR (and even the second one was pretty good), I'll throw my money at them.

It's too bad that it won't be much like KOTOR other than being in the same universe. KOTOR was nothing like a MMO on any level. It was all about storyline and even a little bit about influencing it.

If this is true, this will spell the death for SWG. I dont think the MMORPG market is big enough to support 2 star wars MMOs
