Dragon Age Website, More Wednesday

A new Dragon Age Teaser Website is online, though there's not much to see at the moment (thanks Gamer's Hell). Currently the site offers a link to the Dragon Age General Discussion Forums to foster conversation about BioWare's upcoming RPG, and an intriguing graphic that says simply, "More July 9, 2008," so mark your calendar for Wednesday, and prepare yourself for "more."

Yeah, but what's really the point of playing an RPG then?

Meaningful choice? Having to stop and actually think about what you're going to say? The Mass Effect dialogue system, combined with the arbitrary and clear-cut notions of good and evil, pretty much eliminated both possibilities.

You can get through 90% of the dialogue in the game without even reading or listening to it and still get the desired morality rating.

Yeah, but what's really the point of playing an RPG then? I liked the system in Mass Effect. Obviously it was a bit flawed and needs some work, but I liked the idea behind it, and hope they'll continue it in Mass Effect 2.

As for Dragon Age, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!

That was for the console crowd, so they didn't get confuseded!

I have been playing Mass Effect quite a bit and I am really engrossed in the whole conversations.

The problem with the dialogue system (aside from the grossly inaccurate paraphrasing) is that you rarely have to think about your choices. Good options are always in the upper right-hand corner. Neutral options are always in the middle right-hand corner. Bad options are always in the lower right-hand corner. You can get through 90% of the dialogue in the game without even reading or listening to it and still get the desired morality rating.

Please, just go to gamecopyworld.com and get the no cd/dvd crack bro. Easy to do, no worries there, and don't let that keep you from playing a good game.

I have been playing Mass Effect quite a bit and I am really engrossed in the whole conversations. Wow they did a great job on all that! The game itself is good, not great, and a bit repetitive. Still, worth the purchase.

If this game has the same DRM as Mass Effect I could care less about the game.

they made it like that so you could keep the conversation flowing without too many awkward pauses - its because everything was animated and voiced by the characters, so they wanted it to be like a movie

no it didnt really work that well IMO either - and some of the times it didnt matter what you picked, dude would say the same thing no matter what

there were some hilarious "asshole" responses, but then when you picked them, dude would say something stupid and way off the mark of what they indicated

It won't use the ME dialogue system. Here's a (recent) quote by David Gaider from the Dragon Age forum:

I've mentioned this before, no? The last time someone talked about our dialogue in an interview, I suspect. Even so, it's worth repeating.

The dialogue is presented in exactly the manner that you'd be accustomed to, having played NWN or BG2. You're presented with your exact words (or actions) to select from in dialogue. The similarities to Mass Effect come in when you're looking at the level of detail in the emotional response and animations. It may not seem like such a big deal to some, but for us it's another tool that we simply didn't have to any degree of sophistication previously (if at all).

I read in a 1up preview that DA will use a modified version of the Mass Effect dialogue system. I sincerely hope that isn't true. ME's dialogue system was god awful. What you chose rarely matched up with what was said.

What's wrong with old-school dialogue trees where you see exactly what you're going to say? Is that too much reading for your average consolite or something?

I wish the industry and its studios would move to a release/announcement model similar to Apple's. Now I'm no fan of Apple but I like the fact that you can order a product the moment it's on their web page (Iphone was an exception I think). Sure, videogames need their marketing hype but please don't start with it until the retail release is imminent.

I stopped following this game years ago. Mainly because there wasn't much known except a lot of speculation on the forums.

I hope this means they are projecting a Holiday release, finally.

I was really looking forward to this. But I just can't stomach EA's use of SecuROM and that stupid activation scheme.

Is it me or has this game been in production for what seem like almost a decade? I thought I remembered reading about this in like 2002.

I recently played through Obsidian's Mask of the Betrayer and that made me wonder what Bioware is doing with Dragon Age. I am excited now.
