I dont think there is any lore behind the 8 skills thing. so if you're talking about lore, you're talking about something some retard dreamed up.

The heroes are backwards compatible.

Did not know this. Will be taking a trip over to Elona...

Edit: Nevermind. So, in order to get to Elona from Lion's Arch, you have to do this mission and kill 4 gates or something, which for some reason even me being at level 18 is hard as hell to complete, and of course my fucking Henchmen get slaughtered in seconds.

Wrong newspost dude.

Re: Skill limiting as "rings." I've heard this before as an explanation justifying 8 skills (guess you don't put rings on thumbs and can't carry your extra rings with you) but it's a pretty weak explanation, nonetheless.

Note: I don't have a problem with being limited with what skills you carry at all...just the "lore" behind it doesn't make sense. I don't think ArenaNet has officially explained the mechanics this way either.

Although I like the add of Heroes in Nightfall, they're ONLY in Nightfall. I'm still trying to get through the Prophecies campaign on my level 18 W/Mo and grouping with humans either 1) takes forever or 2) ends in disaster so I'm trying to use Henchmen, which aren't going so well. Saying that you "don't have to group" in this game is pretty much an outright lie.

Ummm, Nightfall costs like 20 bux. The heroes are backwards compatible. Once I found this out when I started (I was late to the GW game) I went and bought Nightfall - did the heroes missions, and brought them over to Prophecies with me.

Like I said. Humans are dumb - NPCs heal wayyyyy better.

Agreed. Lets see someone get through Thunderhead Keep with only henchies.

. Yeah, you could group with Henchmen, but at points in the game the Henchmen were woefully underpowered and you basically had to group. If you couldn't find a group for one of those zones, you were screwed. Then if you did find a group, most of the time they were full of kiddies who'd intentionally botch the mission if you wouldn't give them one of your drops. Maybe they changed the Henchmen since last time I played.

1. You didnt have to group
2. Skills were on rings (ie the name signets etc) so 8 was it, and it was in no way limiting.
3. Its sad a game like Diablo which is another grinder buries news from a far more advanced title.

2. Uh... signets were a type of skill you can choose, along with spells, etc. I don't think signets have anything to do with the limitation.

3. That's just like, your opinion, man.

the skill limiting thing works because it is fun, and that is all there is to it. this isn't rocket science, they just copied a popular fucking card game.

Bullshit.

I have 6 characters who have achieved the Legendary Survivor title. I have carried zero rezzes on them during their usage. That's what monks are for, sparky, learn to use them effectively.

As for Skill Caps, you farm Elite skills. It's not like it isn't obvious where the Hell they are. It's not something you magicially stumble over.

Increase your skill, novitiate.

Wow, someone's a little defensive, aren't we?

You can't expect someone to NOT die in an MMO (even though Guild Wars doesn't totally fit that description). You may be leet enough to live, but most people aren't.

You may like Guild Wars and many people do, but many people find the gameplay mechanics a little too limiting for their tastes - and apparently NCSoft listened, as GW2 is freeing up a lot of what people had issues with.

You always, always, always had to carry a resurrection skill, whether you used it that mission or not -- just because you might. And you normally have to carry a Signet of Capture

Don't forget you really had 6 skills. You always, always, always had to carry a resurrection skill, whether you used it that mission or not -- just because you might. And you normally have to carry a Signet of Capture to get an Elite Skill (that has to be the dumbest RPG game mechanic ever).

I understood why they limited the skill choice and what they were trying to do, but it just didn't make sense. It's like telling a soldier "Ok, well I will teach you this move and this strike and this dodge, but you can only choose one of them when going into battle." If they were going to limit choices, they should have allowed up to 10 skills, not 8. 8 was just a little TOO limiting.

yeah i actually enjoyed guild wars when it first came out too. the story was enjoyable and it just had a fun feel too it.

but i lost touch with it and by the time i wanted to come back there was all these expansions packs i needed to buy and eh!

i didnt mind the fact you only had a few skills on the bar, it made you think ahead and made you choose what skills suited you best. i dunno, a small amount of strategy.
