Regardless of how many people (as a percentage) would buy the game, when you're talking about piracy in the millions of units you're talking about a lot of people who are enjoying the game and have the means to buy it.
What makes you so sure that people are enjoying the game..? From what I've read around here, most people didn't enjoy the game.
They could have and should have paid for their copy and it's Crytek that gets ripped off when they don't.
What makes you so sure that everyone who downloaded the game has a source of income? I think you'll find that a large portion of people who use torrents are kids still in middle and high school. Another portion is kids in college who can barely afford to pay tuition.
It doesn't change the fact that there are ridiculous levels of PC piracy right now, and Crytek deserves better than to be taken advantage of by so many people.
I think you're missing the point. People are insulting Crytek because even though they got busted for using pirated dev software, even though they sold more than a million units and made a profit, even though they canceled a promised patch and "made up" for it by announcing a standalone expansion, they still threaten to move to consoles on a weekly basis and blame it on everyone who didn't think their game was worth buying.
