Battlefield 2 Patch & Map Announcement Tomorrow

netGameRadio has some advance hype for a Battlefield 2 announcement that will reveal plans for a new patch that will include "exciting original maps" (thanks Ant and Planet Battlefield). The announcement is expected tomorrow on what they say coincides with the third anniversary of the launch of the military shooter sequel, though that seems to be off by a couple of days (story).

One of the greatest online games ever made has been brought down to its knees by rampant hackers. It is impossible to play a game of BF2 without seeing 50 jeeps falling from the sky, people shooting you through walls, destroying enemy installations such as radar and artillery only to see it restore within 2 seconds right before your very eyes.

People would still play this game today if it wasn't for the bullshit hacks that EA doesn't even acknowledge exists.

DICE giving any attention at all to Battlefield 2 could mean that we'll be hearing about Battlefield 3 soon.

I agree Surf. For me it was ruined early on. I loved it while it lasted though. Not as much fun as competitive gaming with my old RvS Clan but still pretty damned fun. Sad thing is nothing is bullet proof and there are idiots out there lining up to find exploits and create hacks. Even worse are the scum who download their skillz or buy them.

Only sure way (and even then you have hackers masquerading) is to play with friends or a tight Clan that has high enough moral standards to ban cheaters.

PB is a joke. Not sure how secure VAC is but I've never seen anything in game that proves it's a broken system like PB. Either way people who play games by the set rules purely for the fun of it are a minority.

I wouldn't look at this as some kind of generous support gesture. Battlefield: Bad Company also ships for the consoles tomorrow and I'm sure EA/DICE are just trying to take the sting out of the fact that no PC version is forthcoming.

Global Banning of hardware, keys and accounts isn't practiced nearly enough these days.

If they actually cared about their game, they would have fixed BF2, had anti-cheating systems in place from the start, and release patches frequently, until it was good enough to be called a RETAIL product!

Global Banning of hardware, keys and accounts

At least on the PB side, global bans are only for software that try to interfere with PB directly. Global bans should have an extremely high level of burden, as EvenBalance have appeared to do.

As for game exploits, like the 50 Jeep shit, PB won't, and was never supposed to, protect from things like that. The fact that such a thing is possible on a client-server game, where the server is apparently not doing ANY sanity check is just downright lazy.

PB is useless and irritating. It's quite surprising that we haven't seen a lot more competition for anti-cheat technology - publishers are happy to slap in intrusive DRM to protect against piracy but don't give a shit about the game being destroyed by hackers. I don't know about VAC but I have only seen a few speed hacks early on in TF2 but nothing in the last 6 months - I assume that means it's working.

Hey you ungrateful nitwit, maybe this shit is what they're fixing in the patch?

What's the point, you ask? Well, what the fuck is the point of you bitching and moaning in every single damn thread on Blue's?

It's been in a state for years and suddenly this patch is going to fix all the issues? Doesn't seem likely to me. This is just an excuse to get some positive PR after they killed the game off far too early with BF2142. I love the gameplay of the series but EA has fucked the series over so many times I don't dare trust them again. Shame, cos a Battlefield 3 could be great.

The information from the interview is actually pretty poor, so it is hard to say what we can really expect in the official announcement on Monday.

Not quite. This will be the patch where EA beta-tests their BF:Heroes micro transaction system. They'll start selling hacks on a monthly rental basis; $5 for unlimited jeeps, $10 for automatic repairing commander gear, $20 for wallhacks, and for $50 you get the complete package, including aimbots, firing through walls, and user-toggleable invulnerability.

This will allow them to test their system and get a cut of the lucrative pay-for-cheating market at the same time.
